May 2024
Throughout the year, it's been a joy to witness the remarkable growth and successes of our students. Each milestone reached, every challenge overcome, has been a source of inspiration for all of us. The students commitment to learning and their unwavering enthusiasm inspire us every day. As educators, it's incredibly rewarding to witness the progress and success of our students, and we are filled with pride as we reflect on their accomplishments. They have not only enriched our classrooms but have also left an indelible mark on our hearts.
This month, we're embracing the theme of ENGAGED LEARNERS as we dive into exciting activities and projects. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate on teambuilding exercises, reinforcing the importance of communication and cooperation. Additionally, we'll revisit the valuable insights gained from Career Day, allowing students to reflect on their aspirations and interests. As we approach the end of the school year, we're dedicated to ensuring that learning remains dynamic and engaging. Student of the Month
Congratulations to Briggs Hoesly for being nominated as the Student of the Month during the month of April! Students are nominated each month based off of their demonstration of our CHEESE expectations, citizenship, leadership, and academic achievement.
Briggs has shown kindness, a great attitude, and a determination to learn. He is demonstrating the C.H.E.E.S.E. philosophy each and every day at school. Briggs comes to each class ready to learn and is kind to his teachers and peers. He is motivated to learn each day and a great overall participant during his classes and discussions.
Staff of the Month
Congratulations to Kyle Denure for being nominated as Staff of the Month during the month of April! Staff members are nominated each month by their colleagues for going above and beyond.
6th Grade Math Teacher
It is with great pleasure that I would like to nominate Kyle Denure, 6th grade math teacher, for this award. Kyle is continuously adjusting his teaching styles to meet the unique needs of his students. He brings real world examples into his teachings to make his concepts relatable and engaging. Kyle’s patience and calm demeanor creates a safe environment for students to learn and grow. Kyle is always presented with a smile on his face and positivity. He is always willing to lend a hand, a listening ear, or problem solve when needed. Kyle is a kind-hearted, considerate, and all around hard worker. Kyle referees sporting events, coaches, and is often spotted at local family events which also shows his dedication to the Monroe community as a whole. He is a very deserving candidate and a huge asset to our district.
8th Grade Recognition
On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Monroe Middle School will sponsor its 23rd annual 8th grade recognition program. The program will take place at Monroe High School in the PAC.
It will begin at 7pm.
This yearly event highlights the 8th graders’ contributions to our school and celebrates their successful completion of middle school.
We want everyone to enjoy this great evening of reflection and fun.
Below is an outline of the evening including the schedule and expectations:
There will be a rehearsal, during the school day, on May 30 in which students are expected to take part.
On the night of the program, students will arrive at the high school by 6:30pm to line up for their procession.
Families will be seated in the PAC and may start arriving at 6:15 pm. The students will be seated on the right side of the PAC for the program.
The program will begin promptly at 7:00pm and will last approximately one hour.
Participation in the ceremony is a privilege and not a right. Students are expected to follow school rules and district policy as a prerequisite for participation.
We are looking forward to seeing you at this year’s Monroe Middle School eighth grade recognition program.

8th Grade Boat Project!
Students will be provided with milk jugs, cardboard, and plywood. Any additional supplies can be donated or brought in by the teams. Teams will need to provide additional rolls of duct tape.
No power tools will be allowed for this project!
The final boat race will take place at the Monroe Swimming Pool on Thursday May 30th. You are welcome to join us at the pool that day between 9 and 10:30am. You will need to bring a chair and your student is expected to stay at school for the reminder of the day. Due to limited space for spectators, we will make every effort to video the event and have it posted on the school Facebook page (either live or a video of the event).
If you would like to make a donation to this project, the materials needed (but not limited to) are: duct tape or pool noodles. Each team will need to supply several rolls of duct tape! All supplies must be brought to MMS by Friday, May 17th. If you would like to make a monetary donation to offset the costs of duct tape and the pool rental, please send cash to the office or make checks payable to Monroe Middle School.
For the best success of the project, please take some time to talk to your student about appropriate behavior during this project, as sometimes toward the end of the school year, this can get to be a struggle for some students. We, as an 8th grade team, are SO excited for the students to take part in this highly engaging, hands-on project!
Artistic Achievement
Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Art students that received awards for their art in the Helen Farnsworth Mears Art Competition sponsored by the Monroe Womans Club.

#HealthyLiving
Teaching children that water is the best beverage for them can facilitate building a healthy, lifelong habit of drinking water. Water does so many great things for us including: energizes our muscles, maintains normal bowel function, helps our kidneys function, and controls calorie intake. Even just mild dehydration can lead to headaches, irritability, and difficulty learning. By improving children’s hydration, they may feel better throughout the day and therefore improve their performance in school. Best of all, water is FREE and easily accessible! Not sure how much water your child should consume in a day? Consult with your pediatrician as amounts differ by age, size, gender, and activity levels. Check out the graphic for fun ways to help increase you and your family’s water consumption. ~MSD Wellness
