Weekly North Hills Update
Notes from North Hills
January 10, 2025
North Hills Families,
This week, North Hills Elementary musicians shared their amazing talents with the Central York Community. The fifth and sixth grade band, orchestra, and chorus delighted the crowd during their performances at the Central York High School auditorium. Their collective talents provided a memorable show for those in attendance.
Thank you to the families who have supported our music programs this year! Our parents and families have consistently shown that music matters and we couldn’t do it without your active involvement and support. Thank you!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Scott Billig

Central York School District Weather Reminders
As a reminder, the District has various options available in the event of inclement weather closings and delays. The District will communicate this information to families should the situation arise. Please ensure your contact information and Skylert preferences in Skyward are up to date.
Two Hour Delay
A two-hour delay may be called if the District feels additional time will allow for the safe transportation of our students to school. If the decision is made for a two-hour delay, bus transportation will arrive two hours after their normally scheduled time, car rider drop-off will take place two hours after the normal arrival time and the school day will begin two hours after the normally scheduled start time.
Early Dismissal
There may be some rare occasions where it will be necessary to dismiss school early. On these days, we will communicate the specific dismissal schedules for families.
Flexible Instruction Day (FID)
All school buildings will be closed, however, students will be provided school work to complete independently through Schoology or printed materials. This will eliminate the need to make up days at the end of the school year. Teachers will be available through their usual electronic communication methods during school hours to support students.
Remote Learning
All school buildings will be closed, however, students and staff will complete the school day from home through Schoology and Zoom. This will eliminate the need to make up days at the end of the school year. Remote Learning Days will follow the normally scheduled Cycle Day listed on the District Calendar. Additional communication will be sent to students by their school/teachers with directions on accessing their teachers and assignments. Students should log in as directed by their school for attendance purposes.
School Canceled
All school buildings will be closed and students will make up the inclement weather day at the end of the school year.
Playground - Winter Jackets
As we enter December and the colder days of Winter, we have been reminding our students to bring a heavy coat with them each day for their outside recess. Hats, gloves, and other warm accessories are welcome on our playground. We know many 4th, 5th, and 6th graders may prefer not to bring or wear these items each day, but our staff has done a wonderful job encouraging them to wear them (and zip them up!).
We kindly ask families to remind their child to bring and wear a coat or jacket with them to North Hills each and every day. Please know, if your child has lost or misplaced their sweatshirts or jackets we have many in our lost and found, which is located in our school cafeteria. Students are free to look for their coats here at the beginning of the day or during their lunch block.
If your family is in need of assistance with securing a winter coat for your child please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school counselor, or our school social worker, Kendra Kakos at kkakos@cysd.k12.pa.us .

Safety and Technology Resources for Families
Central York School District is excited to announce that we have partnered with Linewize by Family Zone, a leading education technology company, to provide District families and students with the highest quality of online safety and digital wellness education.
As members of the Central York Community, you have access to an Online Safety Hub, as well as free parent/guardian access to the Qustodio App, a parental control app that allows families insight and control of their child’s device usage.
Qustodio App
The Qustodio App allows parents access to monitor and supervise their child’s time online. By signing up, parents can monitor their child’s activity on their school-issued device, as well as up to two additional personal devices at no cost.
The app enables parents to:
- Receive reports and alerts on your child’s school-time activity
- Enable and disable internet access
- Receive guidance and tips on digital trends and threats
Access to features on your child’s school-issued device will be effective during non-school hours. Usage on two free personal devices is 24/7. Parents must use the email associated with their Skyward account.
Online Safety Hub
The Online Safety Hub includes helpful parent advice guides, app and game reviews, online safety quizzes, resources, and access to information about the Qustodio App.
Please note that you may receive an invite or email from the Qustodio App. This is an optional service offered to District families.
Educational Trips
The Central York School District recognizes that occasionally students may have the opportunity to participate in pre-planned trips and educational experiences during the regular school year. These trips are permitted under State Board of Education regulations as long as certain conditions are met and the educational experience is designed to provide the student with broadening understandings of social, cultural, educational or geographic values and concepts.
The process for approval begins with a written request of the parent on a District form. This form must describe the educational value of the trip in sufficient detail that a judgment can be made regarding the educational value as part of the approval process. Students are responsible for securing the initials of each of their teachers at the secondary level and their classroom at the elementary level before submitting the form for consideration. Forms must be submitted to the school office with all information completed before the trip. No trips will be approved retroactively. The student will also be required to secure and complete all classroom assignments, which occur during the absence.
You may access the trip form via the link below:

Volunteering at Central York
The District’s new Volunteer Registration Portal is now live and parents/guardians/families may register to volunteer for this school year.
The District utilizes a new volunteer registration process within School Gate Guardian, our current visitor management system, to streamline the registration process and efficiently track, maintain, and check in volunteers throughout the school year. With this online registration process, there is no longer a requirement to complete paper packets or drop off paperwork at the District Office.
Prospective volunteers can check their status in the portal after uploading necessary clearances and will receive an email notification when they are approved. Please note that returning volunteers will be required to upload their active clearances within the portal to place them on file in the new system. Please allow up to one week for processing.
Volunteers will receive a self-expiring printed volunteer sticker during each visit upon check-in at the office.
For more information, please refer to our Volunteer page on the District Website
