Franklin Academy
Week of 8/27/23
A Message From Principal Fox
Greetings Franklin Academy families,
Thank you for a wonderful first week of school! Staff and students worked on 'get to know you' activities, started working with curriculum, and a few grade levels have started our first round of Progress Monitoring. Have to SHOUT OUT the volunteers who helped us at AM and PM carlines last week...hands on and supportive...THANK YOU for your helping hands!
Outside of campus, DashPass became the norm for every car and almost all placards were visible on dashboards. Please remember that each placard you were given is to be cut in half so you can place it in another vehicle. If you need more than the two we provided you, please email Ms. N. Gonzalez with the request. gonzalez.nancy@franklin-academy.org. If you are having issues with DashPass, you can contact our Director of School Operations, Mr. Williams as well. williams.demon@franklin-academy.org.
Our biggest hurdle has been vehicles arriving before their designated pickup time. Broward Sheriffs Office (BSO) WILL ticket you for arriving early. The arrival times are listed on the back of your original placard for easy reference, are in our Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook, and were part of your registration when you completed and initialed every item of the School Contract.
K-5 Dismissal: Arrive at 2PM to begin entering campus, students will be released at 2:15.
MYP (6th-8th) Dismissal: Arrive at 3PM to begin entering campus, students will be released at 3:15.
Any authorized parent/guardian/family member/family friend that arrives for dismissal, MUST HAVE the current year's dashboard placard AND DashPass downloaded and set-up with the child's link. If you are sending an adult that is on your emergency list, please have them download the app as well and SHARE your child's link with that person. If you need help with sharing your child's DashPass link, visit our website to find videos and reference guides. https://cc.franklin-academy.org/school-info
This week, as I did on Friday, I'll be INSIDE the school parking lot at dismissal. If the authorized driver doesn't have the placard and DashPass, they will be removed from carline, sent outside by the curb to either receive a temporary placard, after ID has been verified, and will receive support to download DashPass. After that, the vehicle will be redirected to enter carline at the archway to enter carline again.
Finally, please make sure to visit your PowerSchool Portal to update the WAY HOME FORM for your child(ren) as needed and notify your child's teacher of changes! You will also find additional forms in your FORMS tab pertaining to PREFERRED NAME, BUS STOP WAIVER for 3rd-5th grade bus riders, HEALTH SERVICES for the 23-24 school year. You will also see the new STUDENT ABSENCE FORM, this is how you will submit your entry for each time your child is absent from school. I've included a visual below of the form titles.
You also received Health DENTAL Forms in your child's backpack. Please return those forms ASAP if you are interested in having your child(ren) participate! If you didn't see the flyer, please contact Ms. Shears for more information. shears.eugenia@franklin-academy.org.
