Beginning of the Year Updates
Mark Your Calendars!
It's hard to believe that our school year will begin in a few short weeks. Summer has been fabulous at RQE. We had a wonderful summer learning program during the month of June. Congratulations to our students and teachers participating. It was a tremendous success!
Please mark your calendars for the following dates:
Thursday, August 1st- teachers return for professional development
Friday, August 2nd- Teachers will receive their class rolls and will be calling students to welcome them into their classroom. Please be sure to answer your phone, or check your messages!
Monday, August 5th - Meet and Greet will be between 4:30-5:30. This is a wonderful opportunity to drop by the school, sneak a peek in your child's classroom, meet their teacher and drop off school supplies.
It's also a great opportunity to sign up to join our PTA and learn about ways to support our school.
Wednesday, August 7th - First day of school! Keep in mind that our school day begins at 7:55 each morning. Traffic in the mornings and afternoons will be heavy for a few days so please be patient!
We are looking forward to a wonderful year together at THE ROCK!
REGISTRATION for the Upcoming Year
Please be sure to help us out by registering your child for the upcoming year. We are at 87% of our population registered, but we would love to be 100%!
2023-2024 Yearbook Updates
Our apologies for the delayed delivery of the 2023-24 school yearbooks. They have not arrived yet, but once they are delivered, we will certainly contact everyone.
MANY THANKS to THE CHURCH OF THE HIGHLANDS
On Saturday, July 13th we were blessed to have adults and many students and children who volunteered their morning to work on our school grounds. Our ROCK garden has moved (no easy task), outdoor classrooms began assembly, the building was pressure washed and beds were weeded and mulch added. Many thanks to each person who volunteered!
SAVE THE DATE for Sept. 24!
On Tuesday, September 24, the Tuscaloosa community will vote on a proposed 11.5 mill increase to the ad valorem rate to support our schools.
The last time the TCS ad valorem tax rate was increased was 1986. In 2015, Tuscaloosa residents voted to continue the millage rate set in 1986 and make it permanent. Inflation has risen by 185 percent since 1986, significantly impacting the purchasing power of the district. School costs have increase 272% during the same time period!
Our system has made great progress in the last decade, thanks to dedicated educators and expanded programs such as Pre-K, summer learning, dual enrollment, and workforce development. To sustain and enhance these efforts, additional funding is critical.
