School Information
8th grade Families: The celebration of our 8th grade students will occur on the very last day of school, Monday June 10. In order to be more celebratory for our students and inclusive, we have moved away from the Recognition Ceremony. On the last day of school, while our 6th and 7th graders are on grade level field trips, we are planning some fun activities and opportunities for our 8th graders. Games, competitions, DJ providing music, yearbook signing, photo booth (yes cell phones will be allowed!) and t-shirts will be part of the festivities. Lunch will be provided via a food truck experience. We also recognize our families like to be a part of the transition and will be formally inviting you to a sendoff at the end of the day. More details to follow.
8th Grade Valleyfair: Your 8th grader should be coming home with a permission slip to attend Valleyfair on Thursday, June 6th. The $30 fee can be returned to school with the permission slip (only cash accepted) or you now have the option of paying online using this link: https://spps.cr3.rschooltoday.com/public/getclass/category_id/525/program_id/170. If you pay online, make sure that you note your student's name and Foundations teacher when prompted during the check-out process and the paper permission slip must still be returned to school. The deadline to sign-up is Tuesday, May 28th. If you have any questions, please contact Nichole Campbell at nichole.campbell@spps.org
7th Grade Families: Please view the link below for TWO field trip opportunities for 7th graders! All the underlined words are clickable for more information and permission slips. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Avx6FitGCJ5dKfR3rdxeHIkYBwGT-FpW/view?usp=sharing
Emergency Response Drill at Macalester College: On Tuesday, May 21st, Macalester College (Hidden River's neighbor to the east) will be partnering with St Paul Fire and Rescue as well as several other government agencies to run a full-scale emergency response drill on campus. During the drill, responders will be dressed in full chemical protective gear, emergency vehicles will be parked on campus, and responders will be using the Olin Rice building. This event will unfold in real time in order to make the exercise as realistic as possible. Please do not be alarmed if you see all the activity.
6th Grade Field Trip: Field trip to the St. Paul Ordway to see Afrique En Cirque, permission slip below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQGBPYZgdt0
iPad Collection for Summer
Students returning to any SPPS school, including a high school, are welcome to keep their iPads over the summer. However, students on an iPad contract for the school year will be required to turn in their iPads. All students attending summer school are required to keep their iPads, except those on a contract.
Students whose families do not want their iPads kept over the summer, who are on a contract, and students who will not be returning to an SPPS school for the 2024-25 school year should turn in their iPads, cases, and chargers according to the below schedule:
• Eighth Grade: Wednesday, June 5, before school or during third period Foundations.
• Seventh Grade: Thursday, June 6, before school or during second period Foundations.
• Sixth Grade: Friday, June 7, before school or during first period Foundations.
Please note that students who do need to turn in iPads must do so prior to attending the end of year field trips, including Valley Fair for eighth grade.
If you have questions, please text me at (612) 568-2358.
Thank you for your support.

Keep Connected 360 - Family Engagement
We are excited to share we have partnered with Search Institute and Change Inc. to offer a pilot program to Hidden River families this year. Keep Connected 360 offers resources to families, including tips, ideas, activities and learning opportunities to support strong family relationships.
Week 30 Expand Possibilities (Connect)
This Week’s Focus: Encourage each other to connect with new people who share and expand interests and experiences. This is a great way to EXPAND POSSIBILITIES through family relationships.
When you have a few minutes, ask other family members a question or two. Enjoy the conversation!
What do you like best about meeting someone new?- What is the best tip you’ve ever heard about how to get a conversation going with someone you don’t know?
- What has been one of the most rewarding new connections you’ve made with someone that you didn’t expect? How did your connection happen?
- What interests do you have that might open doors to getting to know some new, like-minded people?
- Who are people you know (of any age) who share interests with other members of your family (of any age)? What do you think might happen if they got together to talk about those things?
