Hey Bobcats!
Believe it or not, we are coming to the end of the first grading period, which ends October 11th. Report cards will be sent home with the students on October 18th. Student Led Conferences will start the third week of October. Look for more information to come home soon, explaining and scheduling Student Led Conferences.
The PTA has scheduled the Trunk or Treat on October 26th and Wagon Wheel Day is set for November 9th. It is my understanding that Bobcat Bucks was very successful. I appreciate everyone for participating and the PTA for all of their work to support the campus.
If you are interested in volunteering for bike rodeo or anything else on campus please give us a call at 210-397-1550.

Happy Fall, Bobcat Mathematicians! I hope we start cooling down so we can experience some 'fall' like weather.
Your Bobcat has learned so much already within the last month or so and I am SO proud of them!
Please continue to encourage the use of ST Math at home and try to incorporate math in their everyday activities and discussions. Ask your Bobcat(s) to count the fruit, compare the amounts of cookies, estimate the sum of a few items at the store, or multiply the number of items by their unit price. Math is ALL around us!
Also, your Bobcat(s) has taken their initial Fall Math MAP assessment and our teachers have been working diligently to use their personalized data to make their small group time meaningful and tailored to fit their academic needs. If you have not already, you will be receiving the family report by the end of this 9 week period.
As always, thank you for your continued support!
Bobcat Families are the BEST!

Share Your Great Moments
It is un-BOO-lievable how fast this school year is going! The month of October in the STEM lab is a great place to be. Take a look at what we are learning during our STEM time:
Kindergarteners are beginning our Health Careers study. I am so excited to share health careers with our youngest bobcats as it introduces our students to a small glimpse of what our Hobby Magnet Program has to offer once bobcats leave elementary school. First graders have been working hard to demonstrate great digital citizenship skills on computers and will soon begin their Environmental Engineering study. Second and Third graders are finishing up our digital citizen unit and will be coding in our robotics unit. Did you know our STEM lab has over 11 different kinds of robots? Our bobcats get quite the experience here at BSE. 4th graders will be studying Manufacturing Design and are super excited to start tinkering with 3D printing projects. This will definitely be a glimpse of the kind of work they can do at the Jones Magnet Program. 5th graders are working through their first 3D printing project of the school year and will be exploring our Cybersecurity unit that helps introduce them to the Zachary magnet program. It is a very exciting year for our 5th graders as they can choose to apply to attend one of the middle school magnet programs. More details will be shared with our 5th grade families soon.
Keep up the SPOOK-tacular STEM energy bobcats!

MANDDATORY HEALTH SCREENINGS
The state of Texas currently mandates school districts to conduct health screenings for students each school year. In compliance with the state guidance, Northside ISD will be conducting the following screenings this school year.
Vision and Hearing Screening-Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade. Students in all grades, who are new to the district, will also be screened. Pre-K and Kinder will be screened in the first semester of the school year. For students in 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th, the screening will take place anytime within the school year. If a student does not pass the initial vision or hearing screening, a second screening will take place in approximately 2-4 weeks. If a student does not pass the second screening, a referral letter will be sent home by the school nurse.
Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes (visual screening of the neck)-1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th graders. Acanthosis Nigricans is a skin marker (usually seen on the back of neck) associated with high insulin levels and is considered a risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes. Students found to have the skin marker will be individually assessed for height, weight, and blood pressure and a written referral with the results of the assessment will be sent home by the school nurse.
Spinal Screening (visual screening of the back)- School nurses will check the students for signs of spinal problems such as Scoliosis. This screening usually occurs during the first semester of the school year. Girls are screened at age 10 or during the fall semester of 5th grade and again at age 12 or during the fall semester of 7th grade. Boys are screened at age 13 or 14 or during the fall semester of 8th grade. Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier and may prevent serious health issues. The screener will look at the student’s back while he/she stands and bends forward. If a student does not pass the screening, a referral form will be sent home by the school nurse.
In lieu of the screening(s) provided by the school:
Parents or guardians may provide a recent screening record signed by a licensed professional.
The Texas Department of State Health Services allows parents or guardians to provide a signed statement that the vision, hearing or spinal screening conflicts with the tenets and practices of a church or religious denomination of which the affiant is an adherent or member.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact your campus nurse at 210-397-1550
We started the year in the art room reading the book The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds. It's about a girl named Vashti who discovers her artistic talent. Inspired by the book, students grades K-5 used dot markers, crayons, and watercolor paint, to create their own "dot". Art is an important part of your child's growth and education. It builds self-esteem and gives a safe space for self-expression. Their works of art can be seen in this big beautiful art display located near the kinder hallway! Please enjoy!
Our Bobcat Choir has started and we are excited to have 65 amazing 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders singing their hearts out! This year, our Christmas Program will be The Joys of Christmas. As a reminder, if anyone would like to donate an artificial tree that is between 4 and 6 feet in height, please bring it to us. Future Choir dates are:
October 3
October 8
October 17
October 29
November 12
November 21
December 9
December 10 (PTA Performance)
Our 5th Grade Strings program has started with Ms. Jennifer John. Those classes are every Monday and Wednesday after school.
We also have an opportunity for ANY 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader who would like to sing and sign the National Anthem at the San Antonio Spurs Game on December 8th. Anyone who wants to register your student(s) for this amazing experience, please fill out the Google Form by using the QR code below. The last day to register your child for this opportunity to be on the court is November 15, 2024.
Everyone attending, including student performers, must purchase a ticket. Seats start at $20.00 per seat. You can make your seating selection and purchase your tickets by clicking on the QR Code below.
Lastly, please reserve Monday, November 11th as all of our Bobcats will be presenting at our Veterans Day Ceremony. We will be honoring our Veterans with all of our grade levels performing patriotic music, our guest performers, The Stevenson Middle School Band, our Kindergarten Float Parade and our student work that will be in our hallways. We hope to see you there! Information for our Veterans will be coming home soon!
It is always a pleasure being with our Bobcats!
