News From Mr. Gonzalez
Hello TCES Families
We have had a wonderful start to the school year at TCES. I am very excited for the direction we are headed in. Although there is always room to grow, I feel that we are growing in the right direction. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your hard work and cooperation in working with your children and the schools to improve all that we do. I have just a few important reminders that I would like everyone to be aware of.
Attendance is very important for our young students. Please make every effort to have your students at TCES before 8:15 each day.
In order to keep our students safe during pick-up we ask that you please wait patiently in the pick-up line if it is after 2:55 pm.
Please remember that any change in pick-up or bussing requires written documentation.
Finally, please ensure that any and all adults that are allowed to pick-up your children from school are on their list of contacts. We cannot allow any child to go with anyone not on your list in PowerSchool.
Thank you all for your help in keeping our students safe and secure at TCES.

2nd Grade News
Greetings 2nd Grade Tiger Families!
We have had an exciting start to the new school year! Now that we are halfway through the first semester, we are deep into learning new and exciting things. We are working on reading everyday and decoding new words, while practicing new and old letter sounds. We are developing our brain power by working on adding within 20 by memory and building our understanding of numbers and how they work together. Please help your kiddos practice their addition facts at home for at least 5-10 minutes a night. In Social Studies, we have just completed a paper quilt, depicting scenes describing what good citizens and community helpers look like. Our next unit will focus on Science, and we will be learning about the three states of matter!
Other important info:
- Any parents willing to donate the following to classrooms would be greatly appreciated: Clorox/Lysol wipes, Kleenex, and classroom snacks.
- Please remind students to wear tennis shoes on PE days: Jankowski-Monday, Klein-Tuesday, J. Tolley- Thursday, M. Tolley- Friday
PE News
Due to the construction project, all PE classes are held outside unless the weather says otherwise. Please send students with appropriate footwear, attire, water bottles, sunscreen, and hats. In the morning (AM), the gnats and mosquitoes have been a problem. If possible, please administer bug spray (OFF) at home before your child's PE day if they are in Kindergarten, 1st Grade, or 2nd Grade.
Thank you in advance for helping your child's PE day to be a good one.

Art News
Hi Families!
Welcome back!
During this first quarter, students are learning art room procedures and routines, and engaging in many art projects. Children are working to create paintings for the annual exhibit at the Sierra County Fair. The dates for the fair are 10.03.24- 10.06.24. Please visit the exhibit and enjoy the wonderful art that our students have made. They have been working super hard!
We always love donations of egg cartons! When students work with tempera or acrylic paint, egg cartons are used as paint palettes. We throw them out after use, so we go through quite a lot of them.
As always, please reach out with questions or concerns or ideas. We welcome your input about current and future art projects! Please stop by the art room during conferences. We will be at AES from 3:30- 5:00 on Thursday September 5. We will be in the art room at TCES/SEC on Thursday 5:30-7:00 and on Friday September 6 from 7:45 AM until 11:45 AM.
Be well,
Thea Storz

Music News
Hello from music! Our first month of music has been a blast with new songs, review games and fun activities! We started with a familiar circle game âNaughty Kitty Catâ, and used that song to review words with 1 sound or 2. We are now getting into instruments, starting off with rhythm sticks and playing a class favorite rhythm review game called âPoison Patternâ. In exciting news, we just added a new set of xylophones and metallophones to the music room. I am looking forward to creating some fun songs and rhythms with the children and our new instruments!

Bookshelf Bulletin with Mrs. Q
Hello TCES families! Welcome back to another great school year. It was great to visit with some of you at the Watermelon Bust. This year in library we are going to explore some new stories and new characters. This year we started off learning about the Dewey Decimal System and how we can use it to find the non-fiction books we are looking for.
The dates for our Fall Book Fair will be announced soon, so please keep an eye out for flyers coming soon.
Please read to/with your students at home to help nurture their love of reading.
Computer Class News
Welcome back!
Hello, my name is Ms. Lacey for those curious and still learning as well! This is my third year as the computer teacher at TCES and I enjoy being here. Iâm excited to be back learning new technology knowledge with both friendly, familiar and new faces!
To start kinder off, they will be learning how to work as well as login independently. First and second will touch base with their independent work, then they will work towards their routine with typing and coding activities.
Looking forward to a great year of learning!
Save the Children
My name is Mary Reuland and I am a Program Coordinator for a non-profit organization called Save the Children. Last year Save the Children partnered with our Elementary schools to offer in-school reading support to increase childrenâs learning abilities for academic success. Our goal is to improve independent reading and comprehension and help all children to perform at grade level or above.
Save the Children has its own grant funded classroom and offers 30-minute pull-out sessions during the day to help support students with reading and literacy.
To start the new school year every child in grades K-5th has taken a Star Reading test. This test will show us what reading level your child is reading at and which students would benefit from this in-school literacy support.
Be on the lookout as I will be sending home parental applications for the children that would benefit the most from this program. These will need to make it back to me for your child to receive this extra support.
For any questions or concerns you can contact me at mreuland@torcschools.net
Thanks so much and I look forward to a wonderful year!
