"Freshman, Willa Murray made an impressive conference final with a 3rd in slalom, 2nd in giant slalom and 3rd overall for the season in the conference.

Bridgette Duncan finished her senior year 4th in Giant Slalom, 6th in Giant Slalom and 5th over all for the season

Maycee Duncan (also a senior) skied on the boys team this year (due to them needing enough skiers to qualify for regional races) and still managed to come in 11th for giant slalom, 16th for slalom and come in 14th for the season.

"Mrs. Clark led the students through a BreakoutEDU game. BreakoutEDU games are a series of puzzles that require players to analyze clues to discover combinations to multiple locks. Students had a 30 minute time limit to solve 3 puzzles as a team and unlock a box.... Seeing the kids work together in teams to solve was amazing. I am so grateful to Mrs. Clark for providing such wonderful opportunities during library." - Mrs. Suttmann

A group of parent volunteers is working towards putting together a K-12 PTO at Leland Public School. With encouragement from Administration, Stacey Brugeman, Emily Miezio, Hilary Ulbrich and Dan Worth have agreed to spearhead this effort to create a welcoming and inclusive organization that supports our teachers and school community. This Steering Committee is hard at work pursuing a period of due diligence between now and Spring Break. Please don't forget to email them at ptoleland@gmail.com if you want to share your thoughts about what you would like to see—and not see—in a PTO, volunteer, or be added to communication as things evolve.

The College of Education's Office of K-12 Outreach at Michigan State University is pleased to announce our first annual Scholar to Scholar High School Poster Competition!

Our objective is to provide high school students with the opportunity to present research, meet college students, and become more familiar with Michigan State University's College of Education (COE).

The Scholar to Scholar High School Poster Competition is open to any high-school junior or senior that is interested in improving their critical thinking, sharpening their presentation skills, and increasing their college and career readiness.

Join our free Lego Club! We will meet on Tuesdays after school in the elementary media center until 4:30 pm for 4 weeks: February 14 - March 7. We’ll supply the LEGO bricks, building challenges, and inspiration. All you need is to bring your imagination! A snack will be provided, or please send one with your child.

To support our students’ social emotional needs and mental health, we are using a video-based social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum from Move This World. I’m excited to share that you’ll be able to access this helpful curriculum at home, too!

Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.

Leland is organizing an amazing travel opportunity to Guatemala this spring April 14-21. This opportunity is open to all students grades 11 and 12. The dual exchange program is designed to be fun and educational and follows the concept of participatory philanthropy.

• Minimum 8 and maximum 15 students
• Cost is $1980-2580 (not including airfare) depending on number of participants and accommodation options

It's Career and Technical Education Month and that means North Ed Career Tech will be welcoming hundreds of 10th graders from the region on Feb. 1 and 2 to visit our state-of-the-art facility and explore our 21 education programs. Learn more. Enrollment begins now for 10th and 11th grade students who would like to attend Career Tech for the 2023-24 school year. The online enrollment application is open!

One of our many highlights is that students don't have to wait for high school graduation to explore career options. We offer opportunities to pursue required academics along with hands-on training, firsthand experience, mentoring and more. Graduates move on from Career Tech well-prepared for success in work, college, technical schools and life!

Beyond the classrooms, we are proud of how our students represent Career Tech as they engage in a wide variety of extracurricular professional development activities. In fact, many of our programs are aligned with national associations that sponsor competitions to expand leadership and work skills. We have students preparing to participate in FFA, HOSA, FCCLA, MITES, SkillsUSA and National Robotics Challenge competitions and they are well-positioned to learn and compete.

So this February, Career Tech staff looks forward to greeting our prospective students during 10th grade visits and supporting our current students in their pursuits! Please read on for a bunch of good news.

Mrs. Clark has begun using BreakoutEDU resources with elementary students. Breakout EDU is an immersive learning games platform that is transforming teaching and learning in classrooms around the world. Breakout EDU brings the power of escape rooms into the classroom through physical and digital games, challenging students to work together in teams using critical thinking and problem solving skills. LPS has access to both the digital platform and the physical kits. Students are having fun and also learning content

Application deadline is March 13th.
