MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
I am ecstatic for our scholars to return to school next week and start the year off strong! The Mount Vernon City School District has spent the summer devoted to creating a nurturing environment that excites our students to learn and engage with one another. Our faculty and staff have been preparing for students’ arrival as the summer comes to a close.
The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024, which will be a half day for our K-12 school students. For more information on the first day and dismissal, please see the story below.
This week, our teachers set up their classrooms as they get ready for the upcoming year. New teachers attended an orientation, where they met administrators from each building and learned about the mission and vision of the District. I look forward to seeing all the amazing things our new hires will accomplish in their first year.
Convocation was a great success! Thank you to all who participated and helped bring my vision to fruition. I hope the District continues this excitement as we go back to the basics and move forward to mastery. I was delighted to connect with everyone in the District before the year begins.
All of our faculty and staff participated in their first professional development for the year. During this time, they were able to interact with their peers from other schools to gain insight on practices they implement in their classrooms. They also had the opportunity to brainstorm with one another on lesson plans and how to bring real world moments into the classroom.
I look forward to seeing our scholars' smiling faces on September 3, 2024, ready to take on the new school year!
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
