Principal Nolan's Notes
January 8, 2025
Hello, Hampshire Families!
Happy New Year and welcome back to HES! It’s been an exciting three days back with our students and staff. The hallways are bustling and classrooms are business-like with students back to work. The best part of my days are spent in classrooms with students and staff! Thank you for your work to assist your child(ren) in getting back into a routine with an appropriate bed-time, healthy breakfast, and time spent reflecting on each day at school. You matter the most!
Attendance Updates
A message from our Registrar, Mrs. Bautista:
Thank you for working so hard to get your child(ren) to school each day! A few notes as we begin the second half of our school year:
- If your child needs to leave school early for a doctor's appointment, please provide a doctor's note when your child returns to school in order for the absence to be marked 'excused'.
- If your child is late to school (after 8:00 AM), please enter the front doors with your child to sign him/her in.
- If your family is planning to move out of our school boundaries, please contact our Registrar, Mrs. Bautista. briselda.bautista@d300.org or 847-792-3400.
Thank you!
i-Ready & Top Banana Award
During our holiday break, most students took a much-deserved break from i-Ready but there were a number of students that chose to log into i-Ready and complete lessons to increase their learning. Wow! Students are now back into a routine of completing lessons in Reading and Math in order to make progress toward making a typical year of growth in each subject. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement!
We will determine Top Banana award winners in K-2 and 3-5 next Monday after reviewing data over the weekend. Thank you for staying connected to your child's i-Ready progress and growth!
Winter Weather Gear
We are beginning to experience colder temperatures in the beginning of January and we all know that the snow will come eventually! This is always very exciting for our students. Thank you for your patience during arrival and dismissal once students begin bringing bags of snow gear. It takes a few seconds longer to get their gear in/out of the car.
During the colder winter months, all students will go outside for recess. Going outdoors provides a healthy and necessary break for students. Please know that students will be outside for recess unless the temperature is below 10°F (real feel). The District utilizes AccuWeather to monitor temperatures in our area. Be sure to send your child to school with the appropriate winter gear to go outside (coats, hats, gloves, boots, snow pants, etc.). Please label all of your child's items before sending them to school as items can go missing during the day. Thank you!
Girls on the Run
I am thrilled to announce that the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program will be back at HES this spring! GOTR is a program that inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths while building a sense of connection in a team setting. Volunteer coaches (Miss McQuade, Miss Nacht, and Miss Smiley) will facilitate GOTR lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. An informational flyer was sent home with each girl in grades 3-5. You can also click HERE to access the flyer.
Registration begins: January 22nd
Program begins week of: March 3rd
Celebration 5K: May 18th
