WEEKLY UPDATE - March 7, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello,
Each CSD school participates in Canvas visits several times each school year. This week, DHS had our third Canvas for the 2023-24 school year. The Canvas centered around focus groups that provided 36 students the opportunity to speak with school-based and district-level staff about their perceptions of themselves as learners, their school/classroom experiences, and their interactions with peers. The feedback from students was enlightening and we are looking forward to sharing our findings with our staff in the upcoming weeks. I would like to send those students who participated a sincere thanks and appreciation for being vulnerable in their sharing.
Mean Girls will start tonight at 7 pm in the Performing Arts Center. Congratulations to our faculty and the 80 students participating in this musical production. There are multiple opportunities to see the performance over the next two weeks. Please see the flier and video in this newsletter for additional information about the musical and how to purchase tickets to support Decatur Performs.
The Bulldog Bash will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024. You can support the Bash by purchasing a ticket and attending or participating in these other three ways: silent auction, raffle, or coaches wish list. Please support the Decatur Bulldog Booster Club at this event. Click this link for additional information.
Sincerely,
Duane Sprull
Principal

📓 Creative Writing-Submit your work by Sunday, March 10th 📓
Hello Decatur High School!
It’s that time of year again to submit your work to the Literary Magazine! The Literary Magazine, produced by creative writing students, is a Decatur High School tradition and an amazing opportunity for young writers, artists, and creators to exhibit their work. It’s also an excellent way to express yourself! This will be our 52nd edition, and we are proud to invite the entire student body to submit their work. The theme of this year’s magazine is Trains.
Guidelines: You can submit any piece of written work—poems, short stories, vignettes, etc—as well as drawings and art pieces. Your works do not need to be related to Trains or written specifically for the magazine; you may submit work you have already created. There is a maximum page limit of 1 and 1/2 pages and a maximum of 2 submissions per student. All titles should be included at the top before your works.
To submit: Each work should be submitted on its own Google document. You must share your document(s) with DHSliterarymagazine@csdecatur.net and give editing access. The name of your document should be in the following format: “Title of Work - FirstName LastName”. Please specify if you would prefer to have your work published anonymously. Use your @csdecatur.net email for any submissions.
Feel free to email DHSliterarymagazine@csdecatur.net with any questions!
All submissions should be sent in by Sunday, March 10th.
PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL :)
Sincerely,
Creative Writing Submissions team

SAT Testing Updates
For all students taking the SAT this Saturday and beyond:
For the best testing experience and ability to receive technical support, you should use your CSD issued Chromebook. Technical support is not available for non-CSD Devices.
The app is already installed for all DHS Chromebooks and was used for the PSAT in the fall.
Students can confirm that they have the app by checking in the bottom left of the Chromebook sign in screen for the Apps menu and they should see the Bluebook app there. They can launch it and then there is a link in the top right to test the Chromebook and ensure the OS (operating system) is up to date.
To then close out of the app, they can reboot the Chromebook.
Is Your Chromebook Updated?
Replace your lost or broken Chromebook charger today!
If your student has misplaced/lost/broken their charger:
Chromebook charger replacements can be purchased HERE. Proof of a replacement order should be sent to Ms. Jules Shelkoff (jshelkoff@csdecatur.net) or dropped off in the DHS Learning Commons.
