Welcome to the 2nd semester of the 2024-2025 school year!

Thank you for choosing Northwest Indiana Online School (NWIOS) for your child. Indiana Code requires caregivers (parents, guardians, etc.) and students enrolled in an online school to attend Orientation and Onboarding meetings. This is a requirement for ALL NEW students enrolling in NWIOS.

The Orientation Meeting will be held virtually (see #1 below) and the Onboarding (back-to-school) Meetings are in person or virtually.

If you didn't click on the button above, now is the time to click on this link to complete the following:

• Watch the required orientation videos prepared by Edmentum, our partner in NWIOS. You only need to watch the video that is appropriate for the grade of your child. If you have a child in Kindergarten through 5th grade AND a child in 6th - 12th grade, you will need to watch both.

• Select one onboarding (back-to-school) meeting to attend. Again, Indiana Code does require the student and their caregiver to attend the onboarding meetings every year. The Onboarding Meetings will be held at the Trojan Learning Center, which is the south parking lot of the former Chesterton Middle School. Park between the football field and the tennis courts. Then, enter through Door 9, off of Morgan Avenue.

• Students in Grades. 9 -12, due to scheduling, your onboarding sessions will take place on January 13 & 14. This will allow time for your classes to be loaded into the platform, and for you to get your login informatin.

Again, we are glad you selected NWIOS as your school of choice. The next NWI News will include A LOT of links and information about NWIOS!

Students attending Northwest Indiana Online School will receive semester grades instead of at each grading period. In addition, you will see different ways that Edmentum reports "grades." There is an example below.

• Current Grade: The assignments that have been submitted AND graded.
• Course Grade: This is the grade that you would see on the report card.
• Target Grade: If your student remains on their current path, this is the projected end of the course grade.

IMPORTANT: On pace does not equal a passing grade.

Using the example picture below:

• The student has turned in 25 out of 44 assignments. Their current grade is 97.8%. However, their course grade is 49.02%.
• The current grade of 97.8% tells me that for the work the student has submitted, they understand the skills and concept. Then, the course grade of 49.2% tells me that the student has not submitted enough classwork to receive a passing grade.
• Our suggestion is to keep an eye on the course grade.
