Gamify Instruction to Reduce Math Anxiety and Improve Test Scores
Here are some simple ways to make math more engaging to all students, even those who say, “I hate math!”
The teacher in the video explains how she did things like changing the language she uses to mimic gaming—lessons are “quests,” chapters are “levels,” each unit is a themed world, and quizzes are “boss battles” where rematches are allowed. She saw students’ feelings and mindsets about math start to change.

Help Your Students With Self-Assessment
The NAEM Tracker strategy help kids self-assess where they are in their learning.
The process also helps teachers decide whether to move on with the unit or reteach a lesson or concept.
NAEM is an acronym:
N - Novice. “I don’t know much about this topic; it’s new to me”
A - Apprentice. “I am aware of this topic and currently learning about it”
E - Expert. “I understand the topic well and apply it”
M - Mentor. “I understand the topic well, can teach it to others, and support them in applying it”

These sessions will challenge school-based teams to think differently about designing flexible learning environments that bring accessible learning experiences to all students.
At a later date following each session, there will be an additional virtual networking session to engage participants in smaller group discussions focused on “problems of practice” that were discussed during the previous webinars.
