We are back in full swing. We had a busy week and we appreciate all our students, teachers and aides who have been helping get our midyear testing finished. It's hard to believe that we are halfway through the school year. Congratulations on a successful 2nd term. We look forward to the start of 3rd term. Grades will be available next Friday on your MYDSD app. You can also access surveys there. We hope everyone will enjoy a much deserved break. Have a wonderful day off on Monday on Martin Luther King Jr Day and students can enjoy a second day off as teachers do professional development on Tuesday. Go Eagles!

Kindergarten round up
Those children who will be 5 years of age on or before September 1st of 2023 are going to embark on a wonderful, exciting adventure! Being “big enough” for Kindergarten is a delightful time in a child’s life, and we are pleased to be part of that adventure! At this time, we are conducting a survey of our school community to locate our incoming kindergartners and students who will be coming the following year. If you have a child in your home that will be either 4 or 5 years old by September 1st, 2023, please contact the school’s office or email our Head Secretary cboswell@dsdmail.net as soon as possible.
Kindergarten Registration Packets can be picked up in the school office after January 4 for those entering Kindergarten in August 2023. We will hold a Kindergarten round up day in April, but registration can be turned into the office earlier. Information for the roundup will be sent to those who we have contact information for.
In addition to this, we also would like the names and contact information for any students who will enter school in 2024 as 5 year old students. Another thing we are implementing this year is a preschool group. Those who will be 4 years of age before September 4 should also contact our secretary with contact information. This group will get you information regarding helping your child through preparation for Kindergarten and we hope to form a play group with potential students and their parents. Lastly, please inform any other “kindergarten-age” children you know whose parents might not receive this notice. Thanks!
PAL & SPECTRUM PROGRAM
We have at our school what is called the “Spectrum” Program, which is a full-time program for high-ability learners. This program contains a challenging curriculum with an emphasis on higher level critical and creative thinking skills including depth, complexity and rigor. The Pals program, which is not held at our school, is specifically for grades 1-3 while the Spectrum Program is for grades 4-6.
Who should apply? Current K-5 students who consistently demonstrate above average academic ability and would benefit from learning in a faster paced environment with their cognitive peers. These programs offer a challenging curriculum with an emphasis on higher level critical and creative thinking skills including depth, complexity, and rigor.
The main testing window for 2-5th grades is in October-November and for K-1st grade in November-December. Between January and March we continue to test on a case by case basis. Placement for students begins in April.
