State-Wide Cross Country Meet
Congratulations to the five Runkle students who qualified for and participated in the MA State Cross Country Meet last weekend. The event was held at Willard Park in Devens, MA. Runkle 7th graders; Adriana Russell, Sebastian Guzman, Emma Consoli, and Greta Walega ran amazing races. Emma placed 16th out of 200 runners. Sebastian placed 28th out of 228 runners. Sofia Walega was our only 8th grade runner:). Again, thank you to Coach Dan Hack who supported our runners at this event.
Sharing Cultures
Thank you Ms. Haese for sharing some great pictures of KH. Ayush's mother, Charu Swamy, shared their Dawali traditions with the class last week. Runkle welcomes families sharing their culture and traditions with our community. Thank you KH!
Professional Development Day
Runkle Staff participated in a variety of Professional Development on Election Day, November 5th. All our our K-5 teachers, EL teachers, special educators, and specialists attended Literacy Workshops focused on the “Power of a Knowledge-Rich Curriculum and Structured Literacy.” The overarching goals for their time together was:
Gain a clear understanding of the district's literacy goals and how adopting a knowledge-rich curriculum and a structured literacy approach can help meet these goals.
Explore how anti-bias texts can be integrated into a knowledge-rich curriculum to foster academic rigor and culturally responsive teaching.
Reflect on how our identities and experiences influence our teaching practices and beliefs about literacy instruction.
Our clinical team attended a workshop with Dr. Matthew DuBois and Guardian. They learned about cyber-safety for students (tweens and teens). We are working on a Parent Evening with Guardian to share technology tips and safety with the Runkle Community
Our middle school team met with Curriculum Coordinators in Math, Science, and Social Studies. Runkle's 6-8 teachers had a short session with Cristina Hernandez, Assistance Director of Educational Equity, to learn more about Restorative Justice and Harm Circles. The entire staff received a brief overview of the NEW IEP from our Special Education Director, Rebecca McCabe. Teachers had some time to spend in curriculum and conference planning as well.
