First Day of School
Student Safety and Responsibility Expectations
Jackson Avenue prides itself on following the Stingray mantra, which is attached below. Before, during, and after school are perfect times for students to demonstrate being a Stingray Star.
Please support our efforts by reinforcing the following expectations through conversations at home: In the morning and after school, we need our students to be safe by staying away from the road and driveway, choosing to walk or stand with friends/classmates (avoid running and chase games), and using kind words/appropriate language.
Stingray STARs:
Scholarly: I think about the choices I am making, and I always try my best.
Trustworthy: I make the same choice when an adult is looking and when they are not.
Accepting: I am kind to the people around me.
Responsible: I follow the school rules, and I take care of the things around me.
Stingray Staff Updates
We are excited to have them join our team!
There have also been some teacher grade level changes at Jackson. Holly Hamilton has joined our 1st grade team and Amanda Harding has joined 3rd grade.
School Site Council Parent Rep Needed
Congratulations to our newest SSC parent rep, Alek Butler, who joins our current parent reps: Gabrielle Carpenter, Jason Cruz, and Nicole Tovar. One of our SSC parent reps, Katy Howser, has joined us as a teacher, which leaves us with an open position to fill.
We will be holding elections for our vacant School Site Council Parent Representative Position at Back to School Night; now is the time to submit your interest for inclusion on the ballot.
Jackson Avenue invites parent candidates for School Site Council (SSC) to serve a 2 year term beginning this year (2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years).
We have 1 parent rep position available.
We meet 4 times per year as a team of 5 parents and 5 staff (Principal included).
Our meetings will be held in person from 3:30-4:30.
This important school function serves several purposes achieved through School Site Council Meetings, including:
• To review the Single Plan for Student Achievement
• To carry out other legislative requirements of an SSC
• To discuss issues and programs
• To give input and/or make decisions
• To develop leadership
• To share information and educate the group
• To improve overall organizational productivity and effectiveness
• To become more informed about categorical programs and budget
The school principal, teachers, other school personnel, and parents make up this group. Their primary responsibility is to identify common goals and assist the leadership team in establishing a plan to achieve the goals.
The key to a successful SSC depends upon a good working relationship among all members of the Council. Each member of the Council shares their unique perspective and knowledge of the school's needs, as they affect all students, during SSC meetings.
If interested, please submit your name, contact information, and a very brief summary of why you would be a good candidate by August 16, 2024 at 4:00 pm in order to be included on the ballot for Back to School Night voting.

Back to School Night
Our evening will begin at 5:30 and conclude at 6:35. Classroom presentations are designed to help families learn about what their children will be learning, classroom expectations, fun activities, and general information impacting you and your child.
Our schedule is as follows for August 22nd:
TK-2nd grade classroom presentations from 5:30-6:00 in your child's classroom.
3rd-5th grade classroom presentations from 6:05-6:35 in your child's classroom.
After a long day of teaching and presenting, our teachers will then head home for some well-deserved rest.
We look forward to seeing you and working with you this year and all those to come.
