Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
Paw for All Challenge
Your student and their classmates can earn a Paw for All in their specials classes, the library, at lunch and recess, and in the hallway for demonstrating responsible, respectful, safe, and involved behavior.
Starting on Monday, October 7th, we are starting our new challenge!
- Each class will have a hot air balloon with their name on it displayed on the bulletin board
- Balloons will travel from continent to continent. 30 Paws for All allows a classroom balloon to travel.
- For every continent that the class travels to, their class will receive a flag for that continent to display outside of their classroom.
- At each stop, the class will receive a Spirit Day reward.
We can't wait to celebrate all the positive behavior in our building! Check in with your child and see how many Paws for All they have earned so far (you will be impressed)!
Monthly Attendance Celebration
This week, we got to celebrate all of the September winners! Our school winner had no unexcused absences for the entire month- IMPRESSIVE!
We shall see which class is our winner for October! All classes get a reset each month, so it is anyone's game!
Thank you, families, for all you have done to get your students to school! It has made a huge difference.

October RAD Event: Celebrating Individuals with Disabilities
Tuesday, October 8, 2024
4:30 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Heineman Middle School (725 Dr. John Burkey Drive, Algonquin)
The district’s Recognizing American Diversity (RAD) event on October 8th is dedicated to increasing awareness of what communities are doing to provide access and accommodations for students with special needs. Area businesses and local organizations that support individuals with disabilities will showcase their inclusive practices and demonstrate their commitment to making the community an accessible place for all. Attendees with disabilities will be encouraged to submit feedback via a QR code to each participating organization about their individual needs so the organizations can enhance or find new ways to support them and their independence. The event will also feature adaptive activities and games, as well as refreshments and snacks.
Virtual Presentation on Meaningful Inclusion
Tuesday, October 8, 2024
6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Join via Zoom or view at Heineman “watch party”
Following the RAD event, there will be a live, virtual presentation on meaningful inclusion for staff, families and the community. Huntley 158 Superintendent Jessica Lombard will provide a virtual welcome to the authors (Dr. Julie Causton and Dr. Kristie Pretti-Frontczak) of “The Way to Inclusion,” who will present on ways to carry out the district’s motto of supporting “All Students Always” and highlight the importance of meaningful inclusion. Attendees will learn about why and how to support a community where every student belongs!
The virtual presentation will be shown live in the HMS gym following the RAD event. Join the “watch party” at Heineman or join via Zoom. Those who require any special accommodations or require a translator for this event can contact Kelly LaTour at klatour@district158.org. For more information, visit the district website.
National School Lunch Week
National School Lunch Week: October 14-18, 2024
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. We are proud to serve breakfast and lunch in our cafeterias every day and thank our dedicated food service staff who provide it! Click the link for our menus.

Huntley 158 Virtual Bulletin Board
The Huntley 158 Virtual Bulletin Board (VBB) is a way to connect Huntley 158 families with enrichment and educational events and programs in the community. This year, rather than receiving a separate email, families can find these opportunities on the district’s Virtual Bulletin Board webpage in our weekly newsletter. We encourage you to click the link and check out what’s happening for students and families in the community!
To submit a program or event for inclusion on the Huntley 158 VBB, organizations must be not-for-profit or a taxing body based in Huntley 158 boundaries or a surrounding community. Please email your event flyer in PNG or PDF format to kimoore@district158.org and include "VBB" in the subject line. To ensure accessibility for all, flyers must be accompanied by a brief description of your event that includes the name of your event, date, time, location, call to action/website link (if applicable) as well as contact information. Thank you!
