Happy Spring everyone! Fair preparations have begun and the office is busy planning! We have another full newsletter so make sure you read all the way to the bottom. FYI - Jenny will not be in the office Monday, April 3rd.

Please make sure you are re-enrolled in 4-H! You need to be enrolled for the 2022-23 4-H year to participate in any event. When you re-enroll please check your 4-H Online account that everything is correct (email, phone numbers, contact information, emergency contacts). Thank you!

Dues: Each family is asked to pay dues for each youth in your family. Dues are $25 for each youth with a $50 cap per family (3 or more youth). Please send them ASAP. Thank you! Your dues help offset the cost of youth scholarships, and program materials.

Orders will be available for pick up on April 1, 2023

Note - ALL FAMILIES WHO PARTICIPATED IN CHEESE FUNDRAISER - please pick up your family cheese orders on Saturday, April 1, 2023, between 11:30 and 1:30 at Kost Evangelical Free Church, 37405 Kost Trail, North Branch, MN 55056. Enter through the lower door.

Showcase foods at the 2023 Food Show and learn from our review team in order to help prepare projects for the 2022 County Fair! Deadline for signing up on 4-H Online is April 21. View our guidelines below to learn all about the event.

Don't forget to submit your recipes to Sue Humble by April 21 or earlier so they can be included in the recipe book at the event. Recipes received after the deadline will not be included in the recipe book.

FYI - we are not having a festival of nations event this year. If your youth would like to share that specific project you will have an opportunity on July 11 during our Demonstration, presentation, performance, and fashion revue day.

Crop scouting is a way to inspect crops for potential outcomes and risks. Scouts are people who make systematic observations and predict crop production while considering factors such as weather, inputs like pesticides and herbicides, and risks such as disease and pests.

We have a few youth who would love to start a junior and senior crop-scouting team!

Would you like some help with picking out a project for the fair, understanding how to help your child get a project ready for the fair, how we enter projects/animals?

Send an email to the office and we'll try and pair you up with someone who can help. Don't forget to ask veteran club members how they navigate the fair and projects!

Our favorite STEM judge (Professor Erick Agrimson from St. Catherine University) is coming to lead us in building and launching rockets.

On our build day, we will be making the rockets and then you'll take them home to paint. On May 6th we launch our rockets!

Who: Grades 3+ Limit 16 youth

Discover and uncover the unknown world of seeds by registering for The Great Mystery Seed 4-H Project Kit. Uncover clues to identify various seeds from the different growing zones across Minnesota. Youth will use detective skills and tools to solve the great seed mystery. This four-week learning experience will be held on Mondays from June 5-26, 5-5:45 p.m. the fee to join us for this unique experience is $5.00. Each participant will receive a kit with mystery seeds, a journal and a support guide.

All grades 3-8th youth are invited to our awesome camp held this year at Timberbay Camp & Retreat Center in Onamia, MN, June 26th-28th. Bus transportation will be available. Scholarships are available! Contact the office for more information.

Dog Training is beginning soon!

Dog training orientation - 4/27/22 at 6:30 p.m. - Mandatory for members new to dog training

Chisago County Community Center

Invited - anyone interested in dog training this year

Orientation is for members & parents - no dogs, please.

Dog training to start 5/4/22 - and run every Thursday through 7/13/23

6:30 p.m. at Checker Board Park east of North Branch

Dog classes offered at Thursday training are: Obedience, Rally & Showmanship

Any members too young to drive must have an adult stay at the training with them.

The sheep & goat Weigh-in will be held at the county fairgrounds at 10 am. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Come learn all about showing sheep from Amanda Cook. This clinic will include:

• training your lamb

• Feeding your lamb

• Shearing demo

Please bring your sheep with you this is a hands-on experience with practice in training and showmanship.

It’s time to start working with your 4-H animal projects. We hope you find your projects both challenging and rewarding. You will need to identify all 4-H animal projects; breeding heifers, cow/calf pairs, prospect calves (steers and heifers), dairy, dairy goats, dog, horse, llama-alpaca, meat goats, poultry (doves and pigeons), rabbits, sheep, and swine. Animals MUST be identified in 4-H Online by May 15, 2023. All market beef should have been identified by February 15, 2023. Cloverbuds do not need to identify animals at this time. Would you like to learn about livestock but don't own any? We have wonderful members/volunteers who can help. Check the link for who's willing to lease. Interested in leasing? Let the office know.
