SEE YOU SOON!
New Bridge Middle School staff members are making the preparations for the 2024-25 school year. For new and returning families, let me extend to you our thanks for trusting us to teach your children. As parents and educators, I think we can agree that there is nothing more important than our children. We continue to focus on our school-wide guidelines for success - "Bears have PRIDE." "BEARS stands for Be prepared, Everyone shows respect, Attitude matters, Remember responsibilities and Safety first.
As we prepare for a new year, I would like to share some important information, reminders and dates:
- Softball and Football tryouts for 7th and 8th grade students begin in August. See more information below
- Cheerleading Tryouts are August 27th and 28th from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. See more information below
- Our Open House will be held on Thursday, August 22nd from 11:00 - 1:30 PM or from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Come out during these times to meet teachers and staff, pick up schedules, get transportation information, and join the NBMS PTO. PTO will also host a "Gently Used" uniform sale. There will be an optional meet and greet the principal and assistant principal in the media center.
- The first day of school for students is Monday, August 26th. This will be a regular length school day with the tardy bell sounding at 7:30 am and dismissal at 2:40 pm. Parents dropping students off to school may do so no earlier than 7:10 am.
- To help with your back to school shopping, we have posted copies of the 2024-25 NBMS Dress Code and Supply Lists on the NBMS website. You will also find copies of these attached below.
Dress Code:
In addition to shopping locally, school uniform clothes are available online through a variety of retailers. Please note, not all "uniform" items from the retailers are approved for NBMS. Some potential sources are:
- Old Navy, Target, Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Amazon, Kohl's, Belks - Please make sure you refer to the full Dress Code Policy prior to making final purchases.
The dress code is centered on students being able to place a high value on education, not their appearance. Style and status are not priorities at school. Students and parents are encouraged to find ways of enhancing the self -esteem and individuality beyond appearance.
Please review the dress code with your child. Check the uniform guidelines attached to this e-newsletter and our webpage prior to making purchases. Also, please review regulations for shoes, jewelry, hair color/styles and dress code reminders. Optional NBMS sweatshirts will be available for purchase at Open House.
The New Bridge Faculty is very excited about 2024-25 school year. If you have questions or concerns as we get ready for the school year, please contact us. Enjoy the final weeks of summer, and we will see you at Open House on Thursday, August 22th.
Sincerely,
Michelle Padgett
Principal NBMS

Great Things Are Happening NBMS!!!
A FEW reasons why No Cell Phones
Research:
- Just having your phone in your possession can impair your learning
- Cellphones in classrooms contribute to failing grades: study
- Guiding students to develop a clear understanding of their cell phone use
- Mobile phones in the classroom: A helpful or harmful hindrance?
- Reading on a smartphone promotes overactivity in the prefrontal cortex and lowers reading comprehension, study finds
Additional reasons:
- Research shows having cell phones on your person or near you pulls student attention away from focus, decreasing cognitive function and can increase anxiety
- It distracts others when someone is looking at his/her phone
- Texting is like note passing on steroids
- Phones can be used to cheat
- Students are videoing students and teachers and posting to social media (sleeping student, teacher tangents, etc. on Tik Tok) which is a violation of OCS policy
- Recording in bathrooms/locker rooms has increased and videos are being posted, again a student handbook violation and illegal
- Allowing cell phones in schools is giving students the ability to take their attention elsewhere- they are teenagers, we set the expectations for learning and policies
