Highlights of the week
Mr Lisseman - Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
What an incredible week it has been at Twickenham School!
On Monday, 11th November, the entire school community came together to honour and remember those who have lost their lives or been injured in conflicts around the world. Through a week of assemblies, we explored the importance of remembrance, service, and the ongoing impact of war on individuals and communities globally.
The school observed a poignant two-minute silence, with the entire building coming to a standstill. This moving moment was followed by the Last Post, played throughout the school, creating a shared sense of reflection and respect. A heartfelt thank you to all staff and students for the dignity and thoughtfulness shown during this important occasion.
This week, we were thrilled to host senior leaders and educators from around the world as part of the UCL Institute for School Principal and School Leadership Course. Visitors from the USA, Sweden, Brazil, Australia, and beyond joined us to witness Twickenham School’s remarkable transformation.
They were impressed by our innovative practices, high standards, and the dedication of our staff and students. Our visitors left inspired by the exceptional learning environment we have created and the impeccable behaviour and hard work of our students. It was a privilege to share our journey and exchange ideas for shaping the future of education across borders.
Our community spirit shone bright as we came together to support Children in Need. While the final total is yet to be confirmed, we’re confident we’re close to hitting our ambitious £1,000 target. A huge well done to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this fantastic cause.
What an unforgettable week! Thank you to everyone for making Twickenham School a place of pride, progress, and community spirit.
Student bulletin
Each Monday morning in tutor time, students and their form tutors review the weekly student bulletin. This is a round up of all the important information, notices and reminders that they need to know. the bulletin is also posted on the screens around school so they can refer back to it at any time.
Twickenham School's fundraiser for BBC Children in Need
We are very proud to be supporting the 2024 BBC Children in Need campaign on 15 November, to raise money for Children ‘who carry the weight of the world on their shoulders’. Students have listened in assemblies this week to find out about they can make very small sacrifices to better the lives of others, including those in our own community.
Thank you so much to all the families who donated cakes and bakes to the cake sale, they all sold out completely. We are in the process of counting up all the donations and thank you so much for your support.
Managing WhatsApp Group Privacy
Ms Cutting - Head of Year 7
Important Update for Twickenham School Parents: Managing WhatsApp Group Privacy.
To help ensure better phone conduct and protect your child’s privacy, here's a quick guide for Android and iPhone users to prevent unwanted additions to WhatsApp groups.
Ensure Your WhatsApp Is Updated.
Before proceeding, ensure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your phone.
For Android Users:
- Open WhatsApp and tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
- Navigate to Settings > Privacy > Groups.
- Choose one of the following:
- Everyone: Anyone can add you to groups.
- My Contacts: Only saved contacts can add you to groups.
- My Contacts Except...: Select specific contacts who cannot add you.
- Invites from excluded contacts will arrive privately, and you can accept or decline within three days.
For iPhone Users:
- Open WhatsApp and tap Settings at the bottom.
- Go to Account > Privacy > Groups.
- Choose from:
- Everyone, My Contacts, or My Contacts Except…
- Use the third option to block specific people from adding you.
Why This Matters?
By managing group settings, your child can avoid unnecessary distractions and maintain privacy, supporting their focus and well-being. Please take a moment to adjust these settings and discuss proper phone use with your child.

Positive noticing week 2024
Ms Green - Assistant Headteacher
This week Twickenham School held it’s annual ‘Positive Noticing Week’!
Catching children doing the right thing and marking it with positive acknowledgement is not just kindness, it teaches behaviour. You get more of the behaviour that you notice most.
The impact of positive noticing is both immediate and long-lasting. It helps build self-esteem and confidence in children and shifts the culture in the classroom, and at home, so that the right behaviour is always the most sought-after behaviour.
There will be assemblies and tutor time activities to encourage positivity and kindness within our community. Most importantly, students will be shown how positively noticing each other has a profound effect. We would encourage you to try this at home too so you can see the same positive effects that we do. Please let us know if you notice any positive changes.

Flu Vaccinations Consent
This vaccination is recommended to help protect your child against flu. Flu can be an unpleasant illness and sometimes causes serious complications. Vaccinating your child will also help protect more vulnerable family and friends by preventing the spread of flu.
Please complete one consent form for each child to ensure your child receives their vaccination.
The Nurse team will visit school on Tuesday 12 December. They will be offered the live nasal flu spray or the injectable porcine free flu vaccine. The nasal spray vaccination is a quick and simple spray up the nose. Even if your child had it last year, it is recommended to have the flu vaccine again this year due to changes in flu strains circulating each year.
