Emerson Update 02/21/25

Dear Emerson Families,

February is certainly proving to be a busy month, and March is just around the corner! We have so much to celebrate and even more to look forward to.

First, a huge congratulations to our dedicated PTSA members who were recognized at the annual PTSA Founder's Day Dinner on Wednesday. Thank you for all you do for Emerson!

Next week is jam-packed! Our in-house and online Book Fair kicks off in the LMC, thanks to the hard work of our library crew. Also on Monday, at 4:00 pm, the link for scheduling our Spring Virtual Conferences (March 4th, 4:00-7:00 pm) will be emailed. Please mark your calendars!

Our wrestling team wraps up their season next Tuesday as they head to the City Meet at Franklin HS, while our girls basketball teams have one more week of competition. And even with the snow, I'm already thinking spring – our annual Flower Sale planning is underway!

The Emerson band is also hard at work preparing for the MMEA clinic in March. They continue to impress with their dedication.

The book fair crew has been working hard and transformed our flex room into our Fairy Tale / Mythology Book themed Book Fair!

Every purchase at the Fair benefits our school and will run during school hours next week (Feb 24th - 28th closing at 9:00 AM). Parents can set up an eWallet - Scholastic’s digital payment account system for cash-free purchases. You can also shop online!

The Emerson Library accepts donations of new and used books, games, legos, puzzles, craft supplies (including new and used greeting cards), leftover decorating items such as streamers and balloons, and items that could be used as student prizes and giveaways (students loved the beanie babies that were donated this year!). We also would accept individually wrapped snacks for book discussions.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, we want to ensure that all our students feel supported and comfortable during the school day. We understand that some of our students may be fasting and may prefer an alternative space during lunch or other meal times.

To accommodate their needs, we will be providing a designated space where fasting students can go during these times. This space will be available throughout Ramadan for students who choose to use it. Students will need to sign up in advance.

The sign-up will be located in the cafeteria starting next week.

Hello Parents and Students!

The Churchill's Chapter of NHS is hosting a tutoring service for pupils all throughout Livonia. This program will be located at the Carl Sandburg Library on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 7:30, and at the Livonia Civic Center Library on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30.

Any student from 1st grade to 12th grade can sign up for the program.

There are two ways you can report an absence for your student at Emerson.

Option 1:

• Go to the Emerson Middle School website.
• Click on "Report an Absence" under Quicklinks.
• Fill out the Google Form (also at the top of this newsletter).

Option 2:

• Call the attendance line at 734-744-2666.
• Please leave a detailed message about your student's absence.
• Include their name, reason for absence and any specifics we may need to know.

A few key things to note:




• Please partner with us by reminding students that cell phones and electronics should be "AWAY FOR THE DAY"!
• All students must keep bags and backpacks in their lockers.
• We do not allow Hats and/or Hoodies to be worn during the school day.

The Livonia Parent Advisory Committee (LPAC) seeks parent representation from each Livonia Special Education Program. Parent representative volunteers have a child/children with a disability(ies). The LPAC also provides advisory input on matters regarding improvement of Special Education services within our school district.

Emerson Middle School has several clubs where students can connect with their peers, learn a new skill, or simply hang out with friends. We've had a volleyball club, robotics club, GSA club, walking club, Pokemon club and homework club. We would love to offer something for everyone! Our club list is always growing, and we're always open to new ideas. If your student has a dream club in mind or if you'd like to be an awesome advisor, let us know! Joining a club is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, and have a blast!

We will often post relevant and important information on social media for families, and many families find it helpful to contact us on Facebook and Twitter. The absolute best way to contact us and get a reply, however, is by emailing the appropriate staff member or by phone (734) 744-2665.
