Military Academy Nomination Process
A message from John Hatter, the Service Academy Coordinator for Congressman Shreve (Indiana’s 6th District). As this school year comes to a close and juniors begin preparing for their senior year, some of them may be considering applying to a U.S. military service academy. As the Congressman’s academy coordinator, I serve as the point of contact for your students throughout the nomination process.
For your convenience, I’ve included a link to the Frequently Asked Questions page under the Military Academy Nominations section on the Congressman’s website. It offers helpful information for applicants and outlines the required materials for a complete nomination file:
https://shreve.house.gov/services/military-academy-nominations/military-academy-nominations-faq
If you or your students have any questions about the nomination process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
John Hatter – Deputy District Director
Meet Sparty!
Introducing Sparty! He’s our newest staff member at the high school who will begin working in May.
Sparty comes to us from the Indiana Canine Assistance Network. He is a facility dog and has been in training for two years to learn behaviors and skills that will benefit our students and staff. Sparty was specially matched with our school and will begin working after he graduates in
April. He will be living with Mrs. Tammy Etter and working alongside Mr. Morgan in the Counseling Office. He will assist students with regulating emotions, coping skills, working through grief, incentives, and just making the school a happier place.
A special thanks to our many community donors, but especially to Builders Lumber and Hardware and to Knauf Insulation for their generous donations and fundraising efforts that allowed us to get Sparty. Sparty recently came to visit the school, and many students were very excited to see a dog, pet him on their way to class, and learn that he will be at school every day very soon. He will be a welcome addition to our school!
If your student has dog allergies, please contact Ms. Miranda Wethington at 317-398-9731 or via email at mlwethington@shelbycs.org. Ms. Wethington or Mr. Morgan will be happy to speak with you to share our procedures for keeping everyone safe.
