Pyramid of Success
Coach Wooden believed and taught that the most important responsibility each of us had to ourselves was to do everything we could to achieve our own potential. He offered his Pyramid of Success and his definition of Success as a guide, stepping stones to help young people understand what it really takes to make the effort – 100% – to fulfill their potential and do their best. Every couple of weeks, our students will focus on one or two character traits from Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success. Positive examples of students exemplifying the character traits will be recognized with the Pyramid of Success Awards. Classroom lessons will reinforce elements of the Pyramid of Success. Additionally, whole school assemblies will feature character traits from Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success.
For the next two weeks, we will be focusing on Hard Work and Enthusiasm:
- Hard Work – “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. Preparing for success means you must work hard. Are you preparing to succeed or preparing to fail? If you are looking for an easy way, a short cut or trick you are preparing to fail because success requires old-fashioned hard work. Remember: Only you know if you are working as hard as you can.
- Enthusiasm - “Make each day special.” You have to like what you’re doing to do what you like at the highest level. Your heart must be in it. Without enthusiasm, you can’t achieve your fullest potential. Hard work combined with Enthusiasm is a powerful engine. I have attached classroom lesson ideas to help support the theme of cooperation. We will give out the cooperation awards on January 12.
This Week at Adams Elementary
At Adams Elementary, we take pride in cultivating a culture of excellence and character through John Wooden's Pyramid of Success. Each month, we spotlight specific traits from the Pyramid, celebrating students who embody these characteristics and set an example for their peers. This month, we are thrilled to recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional self-control and determination.
Self-Control: Staying Composed and Making Positive Choices
Self-control is the ability to manage emotions, thoughts, and actions, even in challenging situations. The students honored for self-control have consistently demonstrated the power of remaining calm, respectful, and thoughtful. Whether it's navigating classroom discussions, collaborating on group projects, or showing patience during recess, these students lead by example. Their ability to make positive choices and stay focused inspires everyone around them to do the same.
Determination: Persevering Through Challenges
Determination is the drive to overcome obstacles and pursue goals with tenacity. The students recognized for determination have shown that hard work and persistence lead to success. They tackle challenges with grit, strive for academic excellence, and never give up, even when faced with difficulties. Their commitment to learning and personal growth encourages their peers to push beyond limits and achieve their best.
A Heartfelt Congratulations
We applaud these students for their dedication to personal growth and their impact on our school community. Your actions remind us all of the importance of building strong character and striving for greatness. Let’s continue to celebrate and be inspired by their accomplishments as we work together to bring the Pyramid of Success to life at Adams Elementary. Keep reaching for the stars! 🌟
