Leyden hosts halloween talent show
The Leyden Thespians host their first talent show at West Leyden on Tuesday, October 29, at 7 p.m. Prepare for a night of thrills, chills, and spellbinding acts. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Audience: Come dressed in your best costume and participate in a special trick or treat activity.

Music department presents halloween concert
The Music department’s annual halloween concert will be held on October 30, at 7:00 p.m. in the East Leyden Auditorium. Come out for a spooktacular concert featuring the sounds of the Leyden Band, Choir and Orchestra - including a special appearance from the Rhodes School band. Admission is free.
Leyden offers virtual parent series
Leyden Student Services offers a virtual parent series through a partnership with Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) that provides free, public, day and evening sessions.
Today, October 28, Silvia Moreno-Garcia will be presenting a community read, “Gods of Jade and Power," in-person, at the College of Dupage. Link: Information

Deadline for cap and gown orders: Oct 31
The deadline for cap and gown orders has been extended for seniors through Thursday, October 31. All students who plan to participate in graduation must order a cap and gown.

Boys Soccer advances to sectionals
The Boys Soccer team won their regional game this past Friday against Notre Dame to advance to the sectionals against Maine South tomorrow, Tuesday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. The team his having a historic season this fall finishing up the regular season with a 16-2-2 record, and for the first time in school history, they won back to back West Suburban Conference Gold Championships going undefeated again this season. The team started off the season ranked #2 in the state and has been ranked in the Top 5 all season long. The boys have earned the #2 seed in the New Trier Sectional and look to continue to make history as the state tournament approaches.
Leyden Choir students earn spots on All-State Show Choir roster
Six Leyden Choir Students earned a spot on the All-State Show Choir roster including Edgar Garcia, Lily Montes, Nathan Pera, Claudine Ricana and Alina Vaccarro. The All-State Show Choir Festival took place this past weekend and was an incredible experience and opportunity for the students to collaborate with top-notch clinicians and talented students from all over the state.
Playwright speaks with Leyden theater students
On October 16, Carlos Murillo, the playwright of our Teatro Leyden performance of Augusta and Noble, came to West Leyden to speak with students about his experience and process in writing this play.
Students help our communities during annual Make A Difference Day
On Saturday, October 26, more than 400 students, faculty and staff participated in Make A Difference Day. More than 40 East and West clubs and sports teams were represented, with students completing 25 service projects in five different towns around the Leyden community.
Five Leyden bowlers qualify for Sectional competition; two advance to State
On October 13, five Leyden Special Olympics bowlers competed in sectionals, after each earned gold medals in the regional competition earlier this year. Christina Hoenisch and Emilie Karas earned gold medals in the sectional competition, and now advance to the state championships in December.
Athletes compete at Cross Country conference
The Girls Varsity Cross Country team earned 4th place in the conference meet, where Elany Jimenez and Maria Morales were named All-Conference. The JV, Freshmen and Sophomore teams each earned 2nd place, with the following athletes qualifying for All-State: Jocelyn Urcino, Emily Garcia (JV); Naomi Lopez, Krisnnette Rodriguez, Alexa Lorens, Natalia Mendez-Gonzalez (Sophomores); and Alexia Paucar, Brenda Magana, Emily Gandar, Jasmine Jablinskey, and Eva Sharova (Freshmen).
Girls Swimming wins Invite
On October 19, the Girls Swim Team won the Maine East Relay Invite.
Girls Volleyball wins Invite
On October 19, the Girls Volleyball team goes 5-0 to win the Elgin Invite.
Student journalists get to experience a "day in the life"
English 4 Journalism program students Olivia and Yoshi got to shadow CBS reporter Jackie Kostek as they broadcast live from East Leyden this past Friday.

On Friday, October 25, CBS News Chicago spent the morning at East Leyden and the afternoon at West Leyden filming live segments featuring students and staff. This is just one of the many exciting things happening at Leyden this year in celebration of our 100 year anniversary.
