National Public Alerting System Test Alert
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 1:55 p.m., the National Public Alerting System will send a test alert across Alberta to all broadcast platforms. During the test, an alert will sound, followed by a text message letting cellphone users know the sound is part of a test and there is no need for concern.
The Government of Alberta has created the Be Prepared program to support this work. Watch this one-minute video and visit alberta.ca/communityprep for resources on how to be better prepared for emergencies and disasters.
Catholic Social Services (CSS) Giving Tree Christmas Project
Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has partnered with Catholic Social Services (CSS) Giving Tree Christmas Project to provide families, who have children enrolled in school, with gift cards to purchase Christmas gifts. This is a barrier-free program where eligibility is based on referrals from our counseling programs. The focus is on empowering parents to be the solution to their kids' needs- plus they know their children and their interests best!
We are accepting donations for Walmart gift cards in $25 and $50 amounts only. A link will also be available beginning next week for digital donations with a receipt provided. Donations can be dropped off at the St.Lorenzo office until December 6th, 2024.
Thank you for your donations and for supporting families within Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools this holiday season!

Storm Drain Safety
It was brought to our attention today that a storm drain in our field had a cover removed. The city was notified and have secured the cover to the storm drain. The city has asked that we share the following information with our students and their families.
The steel storm water drains, grates and detention pond (when filled with water) on school grounds are strictly off-limits. These areas pose several serious safety hazards, including:
Heavy Metal Grates: Risk of injury due to pinch points and the weight of the grates.
Biohazard Risks: Storm drains contain unclean water and pose health hazards.
Gas Accumulation: Confined spaces in drains can contain harmful gases, creating additional risks.
Flooding Risks: The detention pond can fill rapidly during heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of drowning. The detention pond is out of bounds when water is accumulated there.
The City of Red Deer Staff has asked us to emphasize the importance of staying away from these areas to ensure everyone's safety. If you or your children have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact the office at 403-406-7365.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school safe.

Parking
PARKING UPDATE: We now have smaller school busses dropping students off out front of the school around 8:15 am. The front of the school will remain Drop and Go as these busses should be gone before families begin dropping off their children. If you notice a bus as you drop off your child, please be mindful of students in the vicinity. We thank you for your attention to this matter. As always, we remind our families to please use our North parking lot when parking and exiting vehicles. This is especially important on game nights when we have an abundance of visitors parking near the school. In an effort to show kindness to our community, we are asking our school community to please be considerate of our neighbours across the street and leave that parking for residents only.
