The Faubion Lion Pride Press
Week of December 6, 2021
Dear Faubion Family,
In this edition of the Faubion Lion Pride Press, we highlight student acts of kindness, celebrate an MEF grant recipient, and showcase our ESL Night.
A wise man once said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." At Faubion Middle School, we make excellence a habit, and we are kind to each other. Parents, thank you for instilling those values in your children so they can make a lasting and positive mark on our community.
Go Lions!

MEF Grant - Mrs. Deanda
Mrs. Deanda is pictured above, after receiving a McKinney Education Foundation (MEF) grant! Board member Mrs. Lynn Sperry, Mrs. Cindy Fish, and other members of the MEF presented this award to Mrs. Deanda in class this week. The purpose of the grant is to pay for classroom transformations to provide the most engaging learning environments possible for our students.
We are so grateful for Mrs. Deanda's work in leading the 8th grade ELAR team and the way her team constantly moves the needle in creating unique learning opportunities for our scholars. From Mrs. Deanda, "I feel very honored to be chosen and am lucky to be in a district that provides opportunities and access to the foundation." Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Deanda for this award!
ESL Night
Our teachers in every classroom are focused on providing regular opportunities for language output for all of students by ensuring that classrooms are language-rich and interactive. We showcase the work of our ESL team and all of our teacher teams to promote language strategies that help all students become effective communicators in all subject areas. Parents, what we need from you is to reinforce to your children the importance of using complete sentences with academic vocabulary while also listening with the intent to understand.
Upcoming Theme Days
December’s Social Emotional Learning focus is Compassion. All students grades six through eight will participate in a lesson that discusses how we show compassion to others as well as toward ourselves.
The last weeks before holiday break can be a stressful time for both students and parents. With exams and finishing up projects before the end of the semester, students can feel overwhelmed. Here are a few tips to help your child finish the semester strong.
Check the Home Access Center frequently.
Have your student make an end of semester “to do” list with all tests, assignments, and projects.
Have students make a timeline to complete everything on their “to do” list.
Encourage your student to get enough sleep each night.
Make sure your child is fueling up with healthy snacks and meals.
Encourage quality downtime and self care.
If your child is feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out to their school counselor. We can help your student with time management, organization, and some encouraging words.
Kind acts by our scholars
On what our 6th grade social studies team refers to as "Thankful Thursday," our teachers build in opportunities for students to show gratitude to others by writing thank-you notes.
FMS Athletics is currently sponsoring 121 angels (for the Angel Tree) this holiday season!!
Words from the learning commons
We had a lot of fun this week in the Learning Commons! We have a fun display of pet books for our students to see. Part of the display includes pictures of several staff members and their pets. Students can take our quiz and see how many they can match! There will be prizes for those who score the best!
Please check to see what books your student(s) have checked out and look for any overdue items! This information can be found in the student’s SSO, under MISD Library Search, and My Info. Students can also use the Sora App to check out materials and read or listen on a computer or a phone.

OUR PTO - Teacher Grants, Campus beautification, and More!
Our PTO has been such an incredible blessing this year!!!
To start, they have helped with planting new zoysia grass, 55 Texas sage bushes, and replacing the mulch in the front of the building... This was only the start.
In addition to a new refrigerator/freezer donated by Brian Phillips at Supreme Lending Elite Team, our PTO awarded $3,000 in grants to our teachers for projects that the teachers felt would be hugely beneficial to our students.
There are lots of fun events on the horizon, including a Family Bingo Night, the 8th grade celebration, and a panel of guest speakers to talk with our scholars about life beyond high school. I almost forgot to mention that they fed our entire staff delicious Thanksgiving desserts on the last day before break. Simply amazing.
Parents, if you have not joined the PTO yet, please go to the Faubion PTO website and join! Please view the refreshed inventory of spirit wear and consider a premium membership package to get the tie-dye hoodie. Please visit faubionpto.weebly.com for more information.
Every Friday is a campus-wide "spirit wear" day for all staff and students. Show your navy and gold in support of our school! You can purchase official FMS gear at the Faubion PTO website! faubionpto.weebly.com
Laptop Payment due date has passed
The deadline for paying the annual student assurance fee of $50/$25 for your students’ MISD issued laptop was November 18. Laptop fees can be paid online through PaySchools Central. Cash or check payments can be made in person in the front office. If your student owes fees from previous years, please pay those online as well. Any student who still owes a fee will now have limited access until the fees have been paid. You can see your child's outstanding fees by visiting the Home Access Center.
