School starts at 8:30!
Please remember that school begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. and those arriving afterward are marked with an unexcused tardy.
Drop off begins as early as 8:10 and kids can enjoy outdoor recess until school begins. We welcome your kids earlier so they can get some wiggles out before the school day begins with the added bonus of being on time.
If you are in the car line, please pull all the way up to the front of the sidewalk so that more children can exit at the same time. And, if your child needs extra time and help, please consider parking in the lot and walking them in to help avoid delays.
Please note that when students are tardy, it impacts the flow of the classroom routines and academics.

Safford Kindergarten lesson with Mrs. Buckley!!
Every Thursday Mrs. Buckley comes to the skittles classroom and does a lesson with us. This Thursday she brought a fun pop-it CVC game! The class had to work in teams to find the words she read on their pop-its! We had lots of fun practicing "tapping" out the words. Thank you Mrs. Buckley!
Fourth Grade News
Did you know… Monday: was National 4th Graders Day!
It's time to celebrate National Fourth Graders Day, which takes place on the second Monday in January! This day was created to honor and recognize fourth graders for their hard work and dedication, not only during the school year but throughout their entire academic journey.
It Wondering why 4th graders are deserving of a day of their own? Check out these pics of students working in their classrooms this week!
The Math Problem
Students work in teams to solve the problem.
Students move around the room to analyze the work of other teams
(Because there is always more than one way to solve a problem).
Later in the day, it's time for...The Rapid Review.
The Rapid Review is an interactive approach to reviewing content. Here you see students responding to each others' ideas when presented with a list of review questions. Students elaborate on their classmates answers and even challenge answers that they disagree with during this on- your -feet, fast-paced review.
Our cadence this week (It's a repeat after me, military cadence):
I don't know but I've been told-
When they made 4th grade they broke the mold-
We work real hard and do our best-
Because we are on a learning quest-
4th grade strong!
4th grade strong!
We need substitute teachers!
Please pay your preschool and before-school fees.
Walking Program
The GVS walking program is in full swing. It is open to all members of the Grantham community, including parents, staff, students, and anybody who wants to get their bodies moving!
Doors open to the GVS gym at 7:30 and will close at 8:15. If the weather is too inclement for outdoor recess before school begins, all students will go to the gym and be part of the walking program indoors.
Please be sure to pack sneakers, as they are required to participate. Running is allowed, unless otherwise specified. Mr. Britton is working on implementing an incentive and tracking program.
