Wow! Snowy carpool mornings. Thank you for keeping the Gator community safe by helping your child exit your car when the carpool line stops!
I know the TOP thing on everyone’s mind (besides snow) is the results of our Gator Nation Election! Drum roll please….
Ballot question #1 (all grades): Students decided they wanted to remove the Gaga ball pit and put in a student seating area. This was a clear winner above the other two options of refreshing the existing Gaga ball pit or replacing it with a single tire swing.
Ballot question #2 (grade 3-8 only): Students decided they did NOT want to change the current schedule to have 4 minute passing periods. This passed with 72.6% of the vote. A strong defeat of this idea.
Ballot question #3 (grade 6-8 only): Middle school students, with a 100% “yes” vote, said they would like to have an additional Dress of Choice day on the 3rd Monday of each month starting November 18th! (I was sure this one would pass, but a 100% majority vote is probably historical!)
I was very proud of our Gator Nation citizens. They were very respectful voters when they came to the polling area to sign in, get their ballot, vote, turn in their ballots, and get a sticker! Some even brought their copy of the “blue book” to the polling booth to vote. It was heartwarming to see Gator citizens caring about their community with an 82% voter turnout. I look forward to supporting their student voice.
GOOD NEWS!!!
Our community has had concerns about our lack of fence around the playground and field since we purchased it in 2001. Previous attempts to get approval from our Southpark Owner’s Association have always been rejected. The Administration team and the Governing Board have been working over the last few months to advocate once again for a fence and submit an initial proposal to the Architectural Review committee. We just heard that our initial proposal was approved and we are able to move forward in the process of submitting a full proposal to the Owner's Association for final approval! Our next step is to hire a landscape architect to create plans of the fence design and submit that design for final approval. If the Owner's Association approves those plans, then we can move forward with finding a company to construct the fence. This is a huge step forward and we will keep you updated with our progress.
I hope you have all submitted your RSVP to the LASA sponsored “Glow Party” next Friday, November 15th. LASA needs a count of people planning on attending so we have enough food!!! It should be a wonderful community party with fun events for the entire community (LASA has a putt-putt golf course coming). I will see you all there.
