Essentials of Assessing, Preventing, and Overcoming Reading Difficulties
David Kilpatrick’s Essentials book provides an excellent summary of reading research and how to practically apply this knowledge to understand, assess and intervene with struggling readers. Dr. Kipatrick presents the information in a very clear and accessible format which any professional seeking to better understand reading difficulties will find extremely helpful. Objectives:

Rough Draft Math: Revising to Learn
Author: Amanda Jansen
Many students, especially as they get older, only share their thinking in math class when they're sure they have the right answer. This means that some students hardly talk at all. Yet, talking and writing about in-process and unfinished ideas are vital to learning mathematics. How can we meet this challenge? Expand the idea of 'rough drafts' to the mathematics classroom.
Participants will be shown how to create a classroom culture in which students will feel more comfortable expressing their partial understandings and in-process thinking, and then continually revising that thinking as they build a deep, conceptual understanding of mathematics.
Objectives:
Promote mathematical discourse
Shift students’ views of competence from performative to participatory
Develop students’ intellectual authority
Focus on mathematical goals and conceptual understanding
Encourage risk-taking
Build active, nurturing and collegial communities in which students feel a sense of inclusion and belonging

These 6 Things: How to Focus Your Teaching on What Matters Most
AUTHOR: Dave Stuart Jr.
BOOK DESCRIPTION
How to Focus Your Teaching on What Matters Most
What if the key to increasing the long-term impact of our classrooms and schools was doing fewer things much better?
In These 6 Things, Stuart lays out a practical, research-backed manifesto for focusing on six areas of professional practice for the sake of building sustainable, high-impact classrooms all across the school day. It is my firm belief, and the book is rife with the evidence to support this, that if educators and coaches and administrators, particularly in secondary and upper elementary settings, became experts at these six things, then so much of the rest would take care of itself.
From increasing student achievement scores, to moving forward building literacy initiatives, to improving inter- and intra-departmental collaboration, to making the school day a lot more sensible to our students — These 6 Things is a book that can help.
Outcomes: Teachers will receive:
Proven, classroom-tested advice
Practical strategies to focus on key beliefs and literacy-building activities
