Historically, a Solar Eclipse has been shown to create major traffic issues. To ensure the safety of all Maple Run students and staff, Monday, April 8, 2024 will be a no-school day. We will make it up at the end of the school year, similar to a snow day.

Mr. Lewis' students had to add several 2-digit numbers together with the help of drawings. Symbols for groups of ten, and tick marks for single digit numbers, were steps they took to help them get to the final sum for each problem. When done with their math sheets, they could do other kinds of math work online.

Some impressive art has been on display for quite awhile in the atrium next to the cafeteria. Families may not have had a chance to view it unless they filed through the atrium on the way to music performance.

While most of Ms. Blaisdell's students were engaged in writing or reading others were taking their turn coloring and cutting out feathers for a display in the school lobby. 3-27-2024

Second Grade Explorers celebrated National Scribble Day on March 27th. They used black marker to create a large scribble, then using crayons they shaded each section in with different colors. Some students even named their pieces! - Ms. Fitzgerald

The STEAM and Makerspace Team in collaboration with teachers, and the ECHO Science Center, Montshire Science Museum, and many volunteers are excited to bring you a family evening event– our very own second annual St Albans City School STEAM Festival! Save the date and prepare for an evening of creativity and fun as we design,make and build together! Watch the school announcements for information about all the great experiences planned for this event.

What? A STEAM Festival

When? Tuesday April 2nd from 5:30 - 7:30pm

Who? Students accompanied by family members in our St Albans City School community

Details: Stations will be set up throughout the school with amazing opportunities to build and create. A giant windwall, an airplane launcher, a giant planetarium, cardboard construction, circuits, laser cutting, spin art, photo booth, robotics, and so much more! Attendees will have opportunities to create things to take home and enter raffles to win great STEAM activities to continue the fun together beyond the event.

All are welcome, and no sign up is needed, but if you have questions please contact Darcie Rankin, STEAM Educator at drankin@maplerun.org.

We hope you will join us at the STEAM Festival on April 2nd from 5:30 - 7:30pm. We will have some challenging STEAM activities to test your abilities to build and create!

Here is how to participate: Go on 10 bike rides, note when and where. Drop your completed form at the Saint Albans library by Sept 1st, 2024 and prize winners will be drawn!

You could do 10 rides to school.

As seen in the below video, robots at City school are suffering from winter boredom. They had so much fun during the month of code in December but now are tucked away in their boxes awaiting adventure. What does this have to do with you? Your class can help give the robots a vacation. Simply let the STEAM team know which robot you want and when! We will deliver the robots to you-- ready to go!

We are looking for children between the ages of 5 and 12 that want to play baseball or softball. Scholarships are available and no child will be turned away due to finances.

This is the story of Jane Addams, the first American woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, who transformed a poor neighborhood in Chicago by opening up her house as a community center.

Ever since she was a little girl, Jane Addams hoped to help people in need. She wanted to live right in the middle of the roughest, poorest communities and create a place where people could go to find food, work, and help. In 1889, she bought a house in a run-down Chicago neighborhood and turned it into a settlement home, adding on playgrounds, kindergartens, and a public bath. By 1907, Hull House included thirteen buildings. And by the early 1920s, more than 9,000 people visited Jane's home each week. An inspiration to all, Jane Addams continues to be a role model to girls and women of all ages.
