Message From The Principal
Greetings Poynter Families!
Welcome to a new semester. If your student had a successful first semester (and many did), take a minute to celebrate with them. If there were struggles in the first semester, reassure your kids that this is a fresh start. Plato said, “The beginning is the most important part of the work.” When I was in the classroom, I would tell students that it is easier to stay caught up than to dig yourself out of a hole. If you need help or ideas, please reach out to our teachers and school counselors.
We ended the semester with several celebrations. On Thursday, we had a spirit assembly and the staff vs. student basketball game was a blast to watch. That evening, we had a choir concert and our students got to show off the skills they had learned this year so far. I am excited to continue working with you this year to ensure all students have the skills they need to accomplish their dreams.
Go Patriots!

Feedback Survey
Thank you to those families that have already filled this survey out. If you have a minute, please consider completing it as it will give our leadership team good information as we plan for second semester and beyond.
8th Grade Celebration (Donations Needed)
Can you believe we are already talking about the end of the year? We are working to create special memories for our outgoing 8th graders. One of the events we hold is a raffle at our celebration at Hare Field. We would love your help in acquiring prizes for our students. Here is a letter explaining what we are looking for:
Road Closure
We have been notified of a 3 day closure of both lanes of NE Sunrise Ln between 15th Ave and 17th Ave February 12,13,14. If your students walk in this area, please make sure they are aware. Road workers will help them around obstacles.
February 19 - Immunization Exclusion Day
Students attending public schools in Oregon must have all required vaccinations or a medical or nonmedical exemption to remain enrolled after February 19, 2025. Our school-based health center (SBHC) at Century High School is holding a series of vaccine events in January and February to ensure students have the vaccines they need in advance of this date. If this applies to your student, our health room assistant or nurse have already reached out to you.
Homework Club
Poynter has Homework Club! Homework Club is a dedicated after-school program designed to support students who need a quiet place to complete missing assignments or who need additional academic help. Homework Club meets every Wednesday after school from 3:30-4:30pm in Room 16. Students can sign up with Ms. Adams in Room 27 if they will be walking home or picked up. If students will need to ride the activity, they can sign-up in the front office with Mrs. Varona. Please note, processing for the activity bus takes approximately a week, so students can join the week after they sign up for the bus. Spanish-language support is also available for Spanish-speaking students. If you have any questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Adams (adamsj@hsd.k12.or.us) or Mr. Astudillo (astudice@hsd.k12.or.us).

After-School Pickup
I wanted to let you know that there will be traffic cones in front of our driveway. Please do not park there as it causes a safety risk for our students crossing the street. Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe.
