Keeping the Crew up to Date! Volume 3 Issue 17 - 1/5/25
Clipper Nation,
I can't believe that tomorrow is January 6th, 2025. This term ends on the 31st. Before students return to school, please talk to them about making sure they arrive on time every day and stay focused on their grades to finish this term strong.
At the end of this week, we begin MCAP (State) testing. More than 500 students will be taking an MCAP test. During this time, we will limit calls to classrooms except for emergencies. We ask for your patience, as this may hold up things in our front office if you are coming in to pick up a student. On the 9th and 10th of this week, we will modify our daily schedule. Please review the schedule below.
Let's have a great start to the 2025 portion of this school year. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Well, unless we get a snow day.
Principal Savage
More Information about MCAP Testing
In order to meet state and federal testing requirements, students who are enrolled in Algebra I, English 10, Government, and/or Biology, along with any 9th graders in Algebra II or Geometry, will be taking the MCAP tests starting this week. At the beginning of this week, students will receive an MCAP Testing Schedule with testing dates, times, and locations. Please check with your student that their device is in good working order for testing and charged each day. In addition, please be sure that your student arrives on time and ready to test each day. On January 9th & 10th, all county high school schedules will be modified to have no FLEX/Class 3. This is a normal school day for ALL students with a modified bell schedule for ALL students whether involved in testing or not.
Reminder about the New Weapons Detection Systems
The Wicomico County Board of Education and Wicomico County Public Schools are committed to advancing the safety and security of events at our schools. In support of that goal, Wicomico Schools (WCPS) is pleased to introduce a significant security enhancement that will be implemented for the remainder of the 2024 – 2025 school year.
We will be implementing weapon detection units at various WCPS sporting events, after-school activities, and randomly at various schools to detect weapons and other prohibited items. These items include but are not limited to firearms, knives, and other objects that could pose a threat to others. Any person who refuses to be screened via the detection process will not be permitted to enter the WCPS venue or property.
This technology involves a walk-through detection system designed to identify and prevent unauthorized or potentially harmful items from being brought onto our campuses. This new security process, includes checking bags, and will take place alongside other existing security measures including School Resource Officers and School Patrol. The new weapon detection systems will provide an extra layer of protection for everyone in our school community.
As we roll out this new process, we understand this may cause some delays entering extracurricular events and during school and ask for your patience as we navigate the changes. We are confident that with your support and cooperation, our students and staff will quickly adapt to the new procedures, allowing us to maintain an efficient and secure entry process.
Additional information is provided in the letter attached to the email version of this message. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create the safest possible learning environment for students, staff, families and other visitors.
Blended Virtual Program Students (BVP) Only
Please make sure to review the talking points communication you received about MCAP testing from our school testing coordinator. This information should also be in your child’s Algebra I, Biology, Government and/or English 10 BVP Google Classroom. Remember MCAP testing is a state and federal requirement for graduation, so it is very important for your child to get this completed.
