Summer Term
Ms McIntosh's Update
Welcome back everyone!
Year 2 are thoroughly enjoying their new topic, Doing The Lambeth Walk. They have started to find out Lambeth and Tokyo, making comparisons between the two. Year 1 are learning all about the history and geography of the seaside and Year 5 are thoroughly enjoying reading Cendrillon, as part of their learning about the Caribbean.
Ask your children what they have been learning to find out more.
We have started the term as we mean to go on, with a school event to bring the community together. We hosted our annual Eid celebration, with children across the school explaining the pillars of Islam, the importance of Ramadan, and how Eid is celebrated, to the whole community. I would like to thank Mrs Molvi for writing the script and Ms Nahar for pulling the children's celebration of this special time together. They even taught me how to say 'Eid Mubarak' using Makaton!
Mrs Molvi spearheaded the arrangements for the celebration and we thank her for her hard work. There was a raffle and a bake sale, both of which raised money to pay for the event. Any excess will be donated to charity, which is one of the pillars of Islam.
It was a truly wonderful event, with families and staff from across the community coming together to celebrate. Thank you to everyone who cooked, decorated, baked, and came along.
Special thanks to Mrs Molvi's daughter, who came to do Mehndi, which proved to be incredibly popular. Here's to the next one.
Last week, Mr Taylor took a group of children across Years 4, 5 and 6 to Loughborough Farm. The group will be visiting each week, for the next few weeks.
The children will be participating in potting plants, harvesting, mindfuless, looking for patterns in nature. They will also be looking for the best places for plants to grow.
Each week, the children are also developing their social skills, as they are learning how to collaborate and how to express how they are feeling. The children are thoroughly enjoying their visits and are representing to school to a high standard.
A particular highlight is getting to taste and take home the produce that they have harvested.

On Thursday, we went to an exciting tournament with lots of different schools. The tournament was for football. We played four matches, but unfortunately, we lots all four matches and we only scored 1 goal. We got tired, but we kept going. We didn't give up and we still got certificates.
Nesahalai scored our goal. We all tried very hard as a team and our goal keeper was very skilled. We were very happy for the other teams, but we do wish that we could have won. The boys scored more goals than us, but we tried our best for the school.

Nursery parents, you should, by now, have received your Reception Primary School place offer. If you applied online, you should have received an email asking you to log in to your child’s online application to view the outcome.
Alternatively, you can log in to the eadmissions portal below to access the outcome. Please read the details given, and accept the offer by 30 April 2024 to secure it.
If you applied using a paper Common Application Form, an outcome letter would have been posted first class to you on 16 April with a reply form to be returned by the same date.
It is vital that you respond to the offer the offer your child has been made by Tuesday 30 April 2024.
If you have not received an offer, please contact us as we can help you to secure a reception place for your child.
We are also holding an Open Morning on Monday 20th May.
Please join us to have a look around.
We are already looking ahead to next year, and we have started to think about PGL for the current Year 5s, when they are in Year 6. This will take place in November and Ms Kelleher has started applying for bursaries for those families needing some support to meet the cost of the trip. If you would like your child to take part, but are worried about the cost, please speak to someone in the school office, to see if we can help.
We will be holding a meeting about the trip in May and will send out further information shortly.
We are looking forward to hosting our Autism Voice coffee morning on Thursday at 9am. This will take place in the Conference Room.
This coffee morning is open to all parents and carers and we hope that lots of you come along.
Autism Voice is a registered charity that provides a platform for children with Autism, and their families. The charity seeks to ensure that they can speak and be heard. If you would like to know more about Autism Spectrum Condition, the signs of ASC in children, or just need someone to talk to, please come along.
Ferndale Football League
Last wednesday, Stockwell Primary had only one match and returned with a slim win.
Stockwell 1-0 VGP (Van Gogh Primary)
Goals: Ryan
MOM: Abubaker
Stockwell players wanted to continue their good form and expected a win against VGP.
From the initial whistle, it was apparent that Stockwell wanted to win. The three attacking players did exceptionally well, doing lots of combinations and appearing in front of VGP's keeper numerous times with flagrant opportunities to score. After a mesmerising play that left VGP's defenders behind, Stockwell scored from their left attacker.
The Stockwell players wanted more, but VGP's keeper emerged to be an impenetrable wall that prevented Stockwell from scoring further. Stockwell's coach tried to change things up, and made some substitutions. While Stockwell was reorganising their positioning, VGP saw an opportunity to counter and nearly scored. However, Stockwell's goalkeeper securing the win with a fantastic save.
From there on until the end, the Stockwell players continued to press on but did not manage to score their chances.
Overall, Stoockwell played great football, achieved their objective, which was to win the match, but lacked in finishing their opportunities.
Stockwell squad:
Abubaker, Adriano, Emir, Henrique, Marco, Fareed, Ryan and Tariq.
Stockwell is currently in 4th place with one more game to go. They are top of the 2nd group of teams separated by only 2 points. Hopefully next week, they will retain their place and finish in the Top 5 of the Football Lambeth League.

Subject Spotlight
Science
Children are naturally curious. Science at primary school nurtures this curiosity and allows children to ask questions and develop the skills they need to answer those questions.
Primary science helps pupils to:
- Investigate problems.
- Learn how science works.
- Discover why science matters in the world.
Our science curriculum has been designed so that each unit can be related, through cross curricular links, to the Creative Curriculum topic taught each term. By providing these links, the intent is that children gain real life examples and context to their Science learning.
Each unit begins by researching a prominent scientist in that particular field. Children research the work of the scientist, how they became a scientist and the impact of their work. This links to our possibilities driver, the aim of which is to provide children with a feeling that a career in Science is possible for anyone with an interest and one that they can achieve.
Key vocabulary is taught throughout each unit and referenced in each lesson with children given the opportunity to use the vocabulary in context independently. In addition to the unit vocabulary, there are 6 ‘Word of the Week’ which have been identified and selected to help in the process of closing the vocabulary gap.
How we teach Science
- Each unit consists of 6 lessons.
- 3 lessons are taught on alternate weeks for a whole afternoon
- The final 3 are taught on a Science Day at the end of the half term.
- The first lesson involves researching the work and impact of the scientist for the unit. An introductory hook activity is also included to engage the children and introduce term’s learning in a practical way.
- As we teach science through an enquiry based approach, each unit includes a practical investigation.
- The remaining lessons in each half term are used to cover the skills and knowledge outlined in the national curriculum statements.

Parent and Carer Support
Friends of Stockwell PTA
We have an active PTA, called Friends of Stockwell, who do a brilliant job of fundraising for the school and bringing the community together. Last year, every child was given a £5 donation to reduce the cost of trips; the PTA contributed to class Christmas presents; they also raised money for vulnerable families at Christmas.
It is great to see new faces getting involved. Every parent is a Friend of Stockwell. I ask that everyone gets involved. If you can spare an hour per term (that's three hours per year), your contribution would make a huge difference.
Please email friendsofstockwell@gmail.com to get involved.

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.02am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am, they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.
Attendance Winners
Our overall attendance last week was 96%, which is fantastic. Keep up the good work everyone!
EYFS KS1 Attendance Winners
Reception - 95%
LKS2 Attendance Winners
Year 3 - 97%

School Uniform
School uniform should be worn throughout the school day. While we do not enforce that all school uniform should be branded, children should be wearing the correct colours (white t-shirt tops, navy trousers/ skirts/ pinafore dresses, sensible black shoes). Football boots/ coloured trainers are not school uniform and should not be worn.
Children should be changing into their PE kits for PE lessons (blue or black tracksuit bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers). We have made arrangements for girls and boys to be able to change separately, so the expectation is that all children change for PE.
While our supplier of school uniform is WearAbouts, we do have some items available for sale from the school office. Please check with us to see if we have what you need in stock.
Reporting a Concern
If you have a concern, please see your child's class teacher in the first instance. If they are unable to resolve the problem, please speak to your child's phase leader.
If they are unable to help, please see one of the school's Assistant Headteachers.
If you are still dissatisfied, please see the Acting Head of School.
