Book-Related Events in the Month of December
This month, bring light into your world by attending wonderful, free events in the area that bring you in contact with authors, illustrators, and fantastic books for you and your family members.
Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo
The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE) has three events for kids on Saturday, December 7th including two drawing workshops and one where children can meet and learn from Coco Fox, the creator of Science Comics Dinosaur edition. The expo takes place at the Fuller Building at Boston University. Click on the logo to find out more.
Maddie Frost Author Event at the Bookstore An Unlikely Story
An Unlikely Story welcomes author/illustrator Maddie Frost for a Saturday Storytime event! Maddie will read her newest picture book, Bear in a Bathrobe, about a bear who learns to step outside of his comfort zone to have some winter fun with his friends. Following the reading, Maddie will lead a draw-along activity and sign books! We'll also have bear-themed treats available.
This event is free, but signups are required as space is limited! This event will be held in our third floor studio space. We hope you can join us!

Meet 60+ Children’s Book Authors and Illustrators at the Newton Children’s Book Festival!
The Newton Children’s Book Festival is a FREE event featuring 60+ children’s book authors and illustrators who will be signing books! Books available for purchase at the event. Signed books make great holiday gifts for both teachers and loved ones! Click on the flyer to learn more.

Right in Waltham our very own Waltham Public Library has many fantastic programs for children of all ages from storytimes to maker spaces to concerts. They offer free and discounted museum passes. On December 12 they are hosting a cookies and winter crafts event. They also offer food every day for families. Stop by 731 Main Street to meet the fantastic children's librarians and learn more. Concord Museum Annual Family Trees: A Celebration of Children's Literature
This annual family-focused event celebrates children’s books and a love of reading through dozens of decorated story trees. Crafted by talented local volunteers and organizations, each tree features hand-made decorations inspired by a picture book. Visitors can explore the artistic trees and families can sit and read together or do a festive scavenger hunt. Experience – in an entirely unique way – both beloved classic stories and new books from award-winning local authors and illustrators.
From November 27th through January 1, 2025.
Visit Family Trees Tuesday to Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm or Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Advanced ticketing is not needed. The Museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and is open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Family Trees is a fundraiser for the Museum’s education initiatives. Admission is $20 Adults; $15 Seniors & students; $10 Youth (6-17); $5 Children (3-5); Free Children (2 and under). Members Free.
