End of Fall Semester Information
From an email sent to the community on Thursday, November 21, from Principal Agans
Late Work
Teachers are overwhelmed in December by students who have not turned in work (some from August and September). It is not fair to our teachers for students and parents to expect a quick turnaround on grades that students had the opportunity to complete and/or turn in months earlier. Please do not ask teachers to update grades minutes after turning something in. Late work is not the priority as we are still teaching until the end of the semester. A reminder that late work can incur a 25% penalty. Please be kind and thoughtful to our teachers in the last weeks of school. Students, please make up work ASAP so that you can concentrate on ending the semester in a good place.
End of the Semester
Every class gives a Final Assessment in the last few days of school. Students will take Final Assessments for periods 1, 2, and 3 on December 18, 2024, on a half-day bell schedule. Final Assessments for periods 4 or 5, 6, and 7 will be on December 19, 2024, on a half-day bell schedule. On Friday, December 20, 2024, we will run a half-day schedule for recovery of the last unit assessments (only the last unit assessments as all other recovery should be completed before Final Assessments are given). Students who are off campus for virtual or dual enrollment classes are not required to come into the building during the period that corresponds to their virtual/dual enrollment period. They only come into the building for face-to-face classes. No Final Assessments will be given early. Please see the schedule below and on our website at Bell Schedules.
Pre-approved Absences
We do not accept pre-approved absences in the last two weeks of school (December 9 – 20, 2024). Students are expected to be at school on the last three days of school. Only exception to this is for students who do not have a recovery from the last unit of work may stay home on Friday, December 20, 2024. Students who do need recovery but do not come in on December 20 have forfeited their ability to recover the grade from the last unit. Recovery will not take place in January for First Semester grades. No Final Assessments will be given early.
School calendars are posted a year in advance. Every day of instruction is important. Please do not ask teachers to do something for your child that they cannot do for all. Everyone follows the school calendar and is in school until December 20th. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to a strong finish to the fall semester!
