From the Principal
Copeland families,
It is so hard to believe that we are almost to the end of the school year. The 2023-2024 has been a great year. While we are in challenging times, there are still so many things to celebrate, and our Colts are at the top of the list. They have grown and accomplished so much this year, and we couldn't be more proud of them.
We also want to celebrate the retirements of some very special staff members. Mrs. Fanning-Assistant Principal, Ms. Hughes-1st grade, Mrs. Attleson-4th grade, and Mrs. Reeder-5th grade will all retire at the end of this school year. We are so thankful for all they have done for our Copeland Colts over the years. They are amazing educators and will be greatly missed!
We are happy to welcome Mrs. Willard as our new Assistant Principal. Mrs. Willard comes to us from Moore Elementary where she served as an Instructional Specialist. Fun Fact: Mrs. Willard attended Copeland as a 4th and 5th grade student. She is very excited to return to Copeland and serve the staff, students, and families.
May is always a fun, but busy month! Please check the May calendar for all of the upcoming dates and times of our special events.

Thank you to our Community!
We are so grateful for everything our community does for Copeland!
- On April 8th, each of our students received a pair of specialized glasses to view the eclipse. Our PTO made calls and was able to get a donation of 920 pair of glasses donated by Eclipse for a Cause. Thank you, PTO, for everything you did to ensure that our students were able to participate, even if the weather was not cooperating!
- Wow! The Baklava that the Sanil family shared with our staff was just delicious! Thank you so much!
- The Copeland PTO treated us to a "Hydration Station" on April 10th, and we truly enjoyed it! Thank you, PTO, for treating us so well!
- Copeland's 3rd - 5th graders were cheered on by our parents who stayed late and chalked the walk with positivity and encouragement! Thank you for your support!
- Our PTO held a Glow Party for our 3rd - 5th graders to kick off the STAAR testing with a little fun!

Library hosts Copeland's Annual "Book Character Parade"
The cuties were out in force parading their literary fun! We were so excited to see characters from all of our favorite books, from The Puppy Bus to Pete the Cat, we had protagonists and antagonists alike marching through our halls! Thank you Library, for always bringing the joy!

Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor.
