Jaguar News Journal
September 30th - October 4th
From Our Principal
Dear JWE Families,
Hello! I hope you and your family are staying dry on this Sunday. At school we are ready for sunny days and hope this week brings some our way!
This coming Wednesday, October 2nd, is our Class Picture and Fall Individual Picture Retake & Make Up Day. If your student was absent on September 17th or you are unhappy with how his/her photo came out - please plan for them to sit for a picture this Wednesday. All students will of course participate in class pictures. Orders will again be digital - Information will be sent home on how to access and order class pictures.
We held our Title I Annual Parent Meeting last Thursday evening. At that meeting, we shared our 2024-2025 JWES Title I Plan and our JWES Family Engagement Plan. I've linked both of these here for your review if you are interested. Both can also be found our our school website.
The JWES Lost & Found is quite full already! If your child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt, water bottle or other item, please encourage them to check our Lost & Found for it. As a reminder, we ask that you please write your child's name in or on their items so we can get things back to their owners rather than have them sit in our Lost & Found and potentially end up getting donated to charity.
As an on-going reminder, please be aware that RCPS has had some concerns and issues with younger students being unsupervised at high school games and events. All families are asked to be sure that if your child is at a football game that he/she is both accompanied by and actively supervised by a responsible adult. For elementary aged students, the preference is that your child sit with your family.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Sincerely,
Sara Hammill
Principal
Fall Individual Picture Reminders
On September 17th, each student should have brought home a small slip of paper with an access code on it. Families are to use that access code to view their child's photos and place picture orders online! Photos will be shipped directly to you! If you are not happy with the photo taken, your child can sit for a retake on October 2nd! If you cannot locate your child's paper with access codes on it - please use this flyer to help: Queen City Flyer . There's also an email address on the flyer for you to send any questions or conerns related to pictures or picture orders.

Parachute Week in PE!
Counselor Corner
To recap our previous information sent on levels of support, school counselors first support ALL students through classroom guidance lessons. From there, we move to providing small groups of support that focus on prevention and skill building. We also support students through individual, short-term, check-ins, as well as partner with our community to provide food resources and other basic needs! The final level of support we provide includes: Student specific meetings Working with our Behavioral Specialist Assistants (BSAs) and Behavior Specialist to address and manage behaviors Crisis Management Student specific meetings are private and confidential meetings that allow for collaboration with parents and other school team members. Oftentimes during these meetings, team members focus on providing support and strategies to meet the unique needs of each student. JWES have BSAs and a Behavior Specialist (shared among 4 elementary schools) who are experts in helping students develop positive behaviors and manage challenging ones. School counselors and BSAs work closely with one another to help create a well-rounded support system that addresses both the emotional and behavioral needs of the student. We are so thankful for the BSAs in our building! Ms. Laurie Silva has started this school year at JWES and there will be another BSA joining her in the next month. Ms. Kristen Souva serves JWES as our Behavior Specialist and provides leadership for our behavior team and plans. When needed, school counselors also provide crisis management to provide immediate support and help during difficult or emergency situations while in school. Mrs. Strite and Ms. K work closely with school staff, parents, and outside resources if necessary, to provide assistance to help students navigate through challenging times.
