PURPLE PINKY DAY
Purple Pinky Day
Help Eradicate Polio Worldwide!
You can help make Polio the second deadly and disabling disease to be eradicated (Smallpox was the first) by joining in on Purple Pinky Day. Tuesday October 24th is World Polio Day, which is celebrated as Purple Pinky Day across the globe, thanks to Rotary International, the world's leading sponsor of polio vaccination. The fundraiser’s name, Purple Pinky, comes from the practice of marking the children’s pinkies purple when they receive the oral vaccine. Many children like to get back into line for seconds, and the purple helps the adults keep track of who has been inoculated.
The Maynard Public Schools has partnered with Middlesex Savings Bank, and our local Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley as we assist with the drive to end Polio once and for all. Last year the Maynard Public schools raised over $600 and we all learned a little more about Polio and vaccination. Donations would be greatly appreciated again this year. It costs $1 to inoculate 1 child. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation matches $2 for every $1 raised, so your money will go even farther. Your dollar, coupled with the matching funds, will help ensure 3 children are protected against Polio.
The Maynard Public Schools, the Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley, and Middlesex Savings Bank make for a tremendous triple partnership to help end Polio worldwide. Join in with us by donating $1 on October 24, and get your purple pinky!!!

TIGER SCARVES TO SUPPORT TIGER SOCCER
Friends of Maynard Soccer (FOMS) is a 403(b) non-profit organization supporting recreational and school-based soccer programs, coaches, and athletes in Maynard, including high school and middle school teams, Maynard Youth Soccer, and Maynard futsal. A grassroots fundraising campaign spearhead by FOMS led to the Fowler Fields upgrade. To raise awareness and to promote community, FOMS is selling Maynard Tigers supporter scarves, similar to those worn by fans of MLS, NWSL, and international professional soccer teams. Scarves are $25 and 100% of sales of these scarves goes back to the programs supported by FOMS. To get one for you or your favorite Maynard Tigers fan, contact Amie at amiehesbach@gmail.com.
