ThunderRidge Weekly Update
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
Tonight marks a big milestone for our upperclassmen as they celebrate the end of the year with Prom. The Mirror Ball Prom will start at 8:30pm at Infinity Park. Our Student Government has worked very hard to make this a special evening for the juniors and seniors. The dance will be well chaperoned by TR Administrators and staff, our SRO, and security. Please remind your student that Douglas County School District, ThunderRidge, and Infinty Park rules and policies apply at the dance and need to be followed. We want everyone to have a safe and memorable evening.
Have a great weekend,
Sean Patterson
Principal, ThunderRidge High School

Seeking SAC Candidates
We are seeking candidates to run for the TRHS School Accountability Committee (SAC).
If you are a parent/guardian of a TRHS student who will be enrolled in the 2024/2025 school year and are interested in serving on this parent-led committee, we would love to have you run!
SAC meetings are public and open to all. Members of the SAC, which include parents/guardians elected by their peers, a PTO representative elected by the PTO, a teacher representative elected by their peers, a community member appointed by the Principal, and the Principal, have voting privileges and advise the school's administration on various issues. Responsibilities for all members include representing parent/guardian views on various topics the SAC addresses including, but not limited to, budgetary decisions, the Unified Improvement Plan, and safety issues.
Elected member terms are two years, and are staggered for continuity. Members attend six SAC meetings during the school year. Meetings run no more than 90 minutes and are currently held in the late afternoon. Exact scheduling will be determined with members at the first SAC meeting of the school year.
We currently have two open spots. If more than two candidates are interested in serving on the SAC, we will conduct an election. Each parent/guardian will be allowed to vote. Once the voting window (TBD) has closed and the votes are tallied, the top vote-getters will be announced.
After the elected parent members of the 2024/2025 school year have been identified, election to officer positions within the SAC can be conducted according to the bylaws. More information can be found on the TRHS website under the Parent tab.
Interested? Please send your name and a short paragraph introducing yourself and why you would like to serve on SAC to trhssac@gmail.com by May 3rd. Any questions you have may be directed to our current members at trhssac@gmail.com.
Thank you for your consideration.

IB Update
We officially started IB exams this week, and we have many more coming over the next few weeks. Preparing for IB tests requires a strategic approach due to their comprehensive nature. Here are some tips to help students prepare effectively:
Understand the Curriculum: Ensure you have a clear understanding of the IB curriculum for each subject you're taking. Familiarize yourself with the syllabus, assessment objectives, and exam formats.
Create a Study Schedule: Develop a study schedule that allocates sufficient time for reviewing each subject. Be realistic about the time needed for each topic and stick to your schedule.
Practice Past Papers: Practice solving past IB exam papers under timed conditions. This helps you get accustomed to the exam format, the types of questions asked, and the time constraints.
Utilize Resources: Make use of textbooks, study guides, online resources, and supplementary materials recommended by your teachers. These resources can offer additional explanations and practice questions.
Seek Clarification: Don't hesitate to ask your teachers or classmates if you encounter difficulties understanding certain concepts. Clear any doubts as soon as possible to avoid misconceptions.
Form Study Groups: Collaborate with classmates to review material, discuss concepts, and quiz each other. Explaining topics to others can reinforce your own understanding.
Use Active Learning Techniques: Instead of passively reading or highlighting notes, engage in active learning techniques such as summarizing, teaching others, creating flashcards, or practicing with mnemonic devices.
Stay Organized: Keep your study materials, notes, and resources organized to avoid wasting time searching for information. Use tools like digital or physical organizers to manage your study materials effectively.
Take Care of Yourself: Ensure you're getting enough sleep, eating healthily, and exercising regularly. A well-rested and healthy mind performs better academically.
Manage Stress: IB exams can be stressful, so practice stress management techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or taking breaks when needed. Balancing study time with relaxation is crucial for optimal performance.
Review Regularly: Don't leave studying until the last minute. Review material regularly throughout the course to reinforce learning and prevent cramming before exams.
Stay Motivated: Keep your goals in mind and stay motivated throughout the preparation process. Remind yourself of the benefits of obtaining an IB diploma and the opportunities it can provide for your future.
By following these tips and maintaining a disciplined approach to study, you can effectively prepare for your IB tests and perform to the best of your ability
Counselors' Corner
This past week, TRHS Counselors saw 204 students to assist with academic planning, social emotional support, and post secondary planning. Counselors continue to support our seniors in reaching the finish line! Most seniors have passed their boards and turned in their community service hours. Remember, 20 hours are required for graduation. Seniors can submit their forms to the counseling office.
Our last career speaker of the month is April 30th, from 10:20 am to 10:55 am. Don’t miss this enlightening conversation about careers in the STEM field, with a Program Manager at Lockheed Martin.
Mindful Minute: Managing the stress of deadlines
With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, deadlines can cause a lot of extra stress for students. Students (and all of us!) can use the following tips to help.
Practice meditation. When feeling stressed, you may consider breathing techniques or meditation.
Create smaller goals.
Create earlier deadlines.
Learn organizational skills.
Find positivity.
Research your task.
Create priorities.
Exercise.
