Keep reading and keep up the great work!
Our K–6 Read-A-Thon runs from April 21 to May 5, and it's a fun way to keep students excited about reading as the school year winds down!

Middle School Update
Students use math across a wide range of classes, and here are just a few examples from this week: Mr. Perleberg’s Agriculture class has three separate pens of chickens and are using three different feeds/schedules. They weigh and chart the chicken’s weight to determine the best type of feed and schedule for optimal meat production. We will skip the photos next week when the class harvests the chickens. Mr. Dewalt’s art classes are creating Tessellations based on the inspiring artwork of M.C. Escher. A tessellation is a pattern of geometric shapes that fit together perfectly on a plane without any gaps or overlaps and can repeat in all directions infinitely. Tessellations can be composed of one or more simple polygons, which are two-dimensional shapes with any number of straight sides. Students created their own patterns and are finishing these up soon. Science class is working on a plant growth to watering ratio lab and measuring the growth to determine optimal watering needs of their plants. Their in class mini-greenhouse is being put to great use! This week they also completed a simulation lab that randomized the clover (food production) and animal impact in a study of food chain and the environment. Students analyzed and graphed their data. Math has been everywhere this week, including math class!
Remember that State Testing is coming soon! Please try to avoid scheduled absences on the following days:
May 6-7 8th grade Science
May 13-14 7th & 8th ELA
May 20-21 7th & 8th Math

Enrichment Classes:
The Options Village is always popping with excitement! Especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays when K-8 students come on campus for enrichment classes. One of the classes that has been super engaging and fun is Hands-on Native Culture where students dive headfirst into the vibrant traditions of the Quinault Indian Nation and Coastal Salish tribes! Last week, students started their drum-making journey, building towards this week's activities. The facilitator began by introducing the students to fundamental coastal Salish form line shapes, which they practiced drawing on scratch paper. Following this, they moved to tracing paper. Each student traced the outline of their drum onto the tracing paper, creating a template that they will use to transfer their designs onto the actual drums they made.
