Cartersville Middle School
The Hurricane Watch November 2024
Hello CMS Family,
Can you believe that November is already here? This first semester has been filled with so many wonderful achievements, and we've loved watching our students excel both inside and outside of the classroom. Last Fridayβs Pep Rally was a great time, where we proudly recognized our Academic Team, Cross Country, Cheerleading, Softball, Golf, Volleyball, Football, Band, and Chorus students for their hard work and dedication.
As these activities wrap up, we're gearing up for an exciting Winter sports season! We look forward to seeing our students and families at the upcoming *SpongeBob* performance, basketball games, and wrestling matches.
Please remember, as we are approaching the end of the first semester, it is important for our students to be here at school every day. Letβs encourage our students to stay engaged and finish the semester strong. Being present and punctual is crucial to being a successful learner!
As we head into the holiday season, thereβs so much to be thankful for. Personally, I am incredibly grateful for our staff, students, and parents.
Go Canes,
Mrs. Montgomery
Attendance Reminders:
Β· School starts promptly at 8:20 AM. Students must be seated by this time to avoid being marked tardy. To ensure a smooth start to the day, please plan for your child to arrive by 8:15 AM. This allows enough time for them to reach their hallway, visit their locker, and get to class. Thank you for your cooperation!
Β· Accumulating six unexcused tardies will result in an after-school detention. (Please see handbook for valid excuse reasons.)
Β· Parents can write notes to excuse up to four days per semester. (This includes tardies, check-outs, and absences.)
Β· If your child is absent for more than two consecutive days, a medical excuse is required.

Hey CMS families!
We are excited to inform you about an upcoming opportunity for our students to participate in the YouScience career exploration activities. This program is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education and is designed to help students discover their unique talents and interests, and how these can translate into future career paths.
What is YouScience?
YouScience is an innovative career guidance platform that uses a series of brain games and assessments to identify students' aptitudes and interests. Unlike traditional career tests that focus solely on interests, YouScience combines both interests and aptitudes to provide a comprehensive view of each student's potential. This approach helps students understand their strengths and how they can apply them in various career fields.
Why is it important?
Self-Discovery: Students gain insights into their natural abilities and how these can influence their career choices.
Informed Decisions: With a better understanding of their strengths, students can make more informed decisions about their educational and career paths.
Future Planning: Early career exploration helps students set goals and plan for their future, making their educational journey more purposeful and engaging.
How does it work?
Students will complete a series of engaging online assessments during school hours. These assessments are designed to be fun and interactive, ensuring that students remain engaged throughout the process. After completing the assessments, each student will receive a personalized report detailing their aptitudes, interests, and potential career matches.
What can parents do?
We encourage you to discuss the results with your child and explore the suggested career paths together. This can be a great opportunity to support your child in understanding their strengths and planning for their future.
We believe that the YouScience Career Exploration activities will be a valuable experience for our students, helping them to unlock their potential and envision a bright future. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Below you will find community food resources. These provide an opportunity for people to pick up food and the options with the * in front also have volunteer opportunities to serve our local community.
