833 Young Scholars
Nurturing Potential, Sustaining Support
May 2020
Dear Young Scholar Family,
Distance learning will be wrapping up in a few weeks, and summer is around the corner. This month's newsletter will be our last until next September and will offer a bit of help as you and your Young Scholar plan for and navigate through the days and months ahead.
This month's resources include...
- a fun project to help your Young Scholar practice their growth mindset
- instructions for creating a do-it-yourself quarantine time capsule
- tips and activities for some stay-at-home fun
- summer learning ideas from Camp PBS Kids
- online summer enrichment opportunities from SoWashCo Community Education
Growth Mindset Finders
This project from GoZen can be a fun way to help your Young Scholar notice, name, and work through the challenges that come when life doesn't quite work out the way they would like - which has probably been happening a lot lately (for all of us).
Many Finder options are included that can either be printed or created from scratch using the templates as guides.
See below for a link to download instructions and find out more about these Mindset Finders.
Do-It-Yourself Quarantine Time Capsule
Big Life Journal has put together a 2020 Quarantine Time Capsule guide with directions on how to get started and lots of suggestions on what to include. Pages can be printed, recreated, or just used as inspiration for your own ideas.
Check out the download link below for more information.
Fun Quarantine Tips and Activities
It may sound strange to see fun and quarantine in the same sentence, but stay-at-home is a lot easier with a little bit of fun.
The pages linked below can also be found at the end of the 2020 Quarantine Time Capsule download.
Summer Learning Ideas from Camp PBS Kids
The website Camp PBS Kids has tons of ways to help keep your Young Scholar busy this summer and still keep them learning.
Explore topics such as space, world cultures, reading, fun in the outdoors, cooking with math, and many others.
Your Young Scholar might like to take a look at the Super Summer Checklist to start their summer planning.

About Me
Hi All!
My name is Colleen Redmond, and I am thrilled to work as the 833 Young Scholars advocate and lead teacher.
I'm a mom of two teenagers, a wife, small business owner, avid biker (the pedal kind), book enthusiast, and beekeeper. Plus, on top of all of that, I have the happy job of implementing and growing the Young Scholars program here in 833!
I've been lucky enough to teach in South Washington County Schools for over twenty-five years and have had the incredible opportunity to be a part of the lives of so many students and families over the years.
Now, as part of Young Scholars, I have the honor of working with the amazing staff, students, and families throughout 833. I am so very excited to work with and support you and your Young Scholar. I can't wait to see where the journey takes us!
