MAY Focus for the month
TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI)** represents a serious condition resulting from external impacts that disrupt normal brain function. TBI is one of the leading causes of acquired disabilities and mortality, dramatically affecting an individual’s mobility, cognition, language abilities, swallowing, and overall daily activities. Understanding and addressing TBI is crucial for improving quality of life and promoting recovery.
VISUAL MOTOR DELAYS** are significant challenges that can hinder a child's development. Children facing these issues often struggle to achieve critical developmental milestones, leading to delays in essential gross motor skills—such as crawling, standing, and walking—as well as fine motor skills like grasping, manipulating objects, and even holding crayons. Early identification and intervention can drastically improve outcomes and enhance a child's developmental trajectory.
VITALSTIM THERAPY** offers a groundbreaking approach to managing swallowing difficulties. This form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation effectively activates the muscles responsible for swallowing, using electrodes placed on the cheeks or front of the neck to deliver targeted electrical currents. As the only device approved by the FDA for treating dysphagia, VitalStim therapy is a vital tool in empowering individuals to regain their swallowing capabilities and improve their quality of life.
AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD)** is a complex condition that profoundly impacts a child's nervous system, growth, and development. Typically emerging within the first three years of life, ASD presents unique challenges that require understanding, compassion, and tailored interventions. Early diagnosis and support are essential to unlocking a child’s potential and fostering their development in a nurturing environment.
