SMART START REMINDER
SMART START IS ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 20TH FROM 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
CHS MIDDLE SCHOOL SMART START REMINDERS
We are excited to see you Tuesday, August 20th, at Smart Start! Doors open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 3:00 p.m. Please remember the beginning of the day tends to be the busiest time so thank you in advance for your patience. Please don’t forget to complete the online “Back to School” packet in Skyward prior to coming on Tuesday.
These are just a few reminders about the process of Smart Start to help your visit run smoothly!
Please enter Smart Start through the main entrance of the school. Please come with your child as you will need to have your registration completion verified.
Upon entering, you will join one of three alphabetic lines so we can verify you have completed your online “Back to School packet”.
While in line you will get your Smart Start Checklist.
If you have a dollar amount owed on the “student fees” line of your checklist, you will be able to pay those fees after getting your registration verified.
After getting checked in, you will go to the gym to get school pictures taken, pick up your child’s planner, and class schedule. If you feel the picture lines are too long, you can get your class schedule first (tables by grade level on the gym floor). Just be sure to do both before leaving the gym.
Make sure to visit our Smart PTSA table in the main gym for valuable information on how you can contribute in making this a wonderful school year for all of our children.
After getting your child’s picture taken, don’t forget to get their new school ID that will be printed on site. You can pre order pictures by clicking HERE. The school code is AB2207Fall24. You can also order them onsite if you choose.
In addition, there will be information tables in the gym for you to check out , including athletics information.
We encourage you to take the time to walk the school with your child's schedule, find their locker, practice the combination, etc. If there are any issues with the locker, please find our locker help table near the cafeteria. Please keep practicing , it often takes students multiple attempts to get it correct
When you are ready to leave, please exit the building via the learning commons exit or the gymnasium exit.
Books will not be distributed at Smart Start. Similar to last school year, they will be handed at the first week of school.
If you have an athletic physical to turn in, please bring it with you and turn it in at the check in table. Remember: any child participating in tryouts/ practice for volleyball or cross country must turn in a physical to the main office no later than the first day of practice on August 26th.
Finally, for safety and confidentiality reasons we will not be accepting student medications during Smart Start. If you have any medications that your child needs to take during the school day, please contact our front office at 956-3512 to schedule a day and time to bring in the medication. When you come to drop off the medication, please bring the required Walled Lake Schools medication form as well.
In the event you can't attend, information will be emailed on Wednesday about what to do if you can’t make it to Smart Start.
We look forward to seeing you next week!

CHROMEBOOK INFORMATION
If your family has chosen to sign up for a district Chromebook for your child, you may pick it up at Smart Start in room 100A (near the main office). You can also drop off forms to get registered for a Chromebook to be delivered to your student the first week of school.
- Those that chose to NOT take advantage of the Summer Chromebook retention program by prepaying insurance, and returned their devices at the end of the year, will also have their chromebook available for pickup at Smart Start.
- Students devices that mistakenly were not turned in at the end of the year and are still in student’s possession, currently have a locked message appearing on them at startup. Those devices will be unlocked in the future, most likely just prior to the first day of school.
- Any device not picked up at Smart Start will be returned to the Educational Services Center. Unclaimed assigned devices will be held for 1 month. Any device not claimed by September 30th will return to district inventory and deposit refunded. If needed in the future, families will need to complete the Chromebook enrollment process again.
- The annual optional insurance ($20) can only be paid until the end of day that the device is picked up.
