Elliott Eagles Update
Week of September 23rd
Hello Elliott Families,
Fall is officially here!
Autumn is upon us, and we are excited to see the changing colors and crisp weather. Please remember to dress your students appropriately for the cooler temperatures. Layers are key for recess and outdoor activities.
Attendance is important for student success
We want to remind all families that regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic progress. When students miss school, they miss important instruction and can fall behind. Please make every effort to have your child in school each day, on time. If your child is ill, be sure to call the office to report the absence. Together, we can ensure your child has a successful school year.
Title I Parent Meeting
Our annual Title I parent meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 8th at 6:00 pm. This is an important meeting to learn about the Title I program and how it supports student achievement at our school. We encourage all families to attend. Refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there! The PTO will have their meeting take place starting at 6:30pm.
Family Resource Center
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), offering free services to all students and families within our district. Among the services provided are basic needs assistance, access to over 700 local resources, and a Laundry Assistance Program. Additionally, the FRC offers essential items, such as emergency toiletries, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, and scarves, to those in need. School supplies and backpacks are also available year-round for any district student.
Please contact our Family Resource Center at 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. A Digital Request for Services Form is also available. If you have additional questions about their services, please contact the Family Resource Center directly.

What an awesome first week of games last Saturday! A big thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on our team—it made the day extra special. Here are just a few friendly reminders as we gear up for this week:
Concessions: Good news—there will be yummy concessions available this week!
No Pets, Please: For everyone’s safety, please remember that pets aren’t allowed on the property.
Handicap Parking: Please be sure only vehicles with a handicap license plate or tag park in those designated spots. Police will be patrolling and issuing tickets.
Field Access: For the safety of our students, only coaches, district staff, NFL Flag staff, and players are allowed on the track and football field. Parents and siblings will need to stay off the field.

Birthday Recognitions
We mentioned during our Open House that this year we are making a change to our birthday recognition for our students. In the past students could bring in an item to share with classmates that was not food related. We also recognize our students during our morning announcements. The following are the changes for this year:
- Birthday Recognition- Parents must let teacher know ahead of time. It is not a birthday party so no balloons should be brought to school.
- Parents can bring in individually pre-packaged item with ingredients listed so we can check for allergies (bringing in a tray of cupcakes does not meet this requirement).
- Some classrooms may be peanut free classrooms and the classroom teacher will communicate this information.

Food Service Updates & Snack Cart
Snack cart has started for students. After students have had an opportunity to get their school lunch they will be able to purchase an additional snack. The lunch staff is not able to accept money higher than $5. If a larger amount is needed to be sent you must add it to their PaySchools account.
Food Service uses a third party website to load funds onto students' accounts. The site is called PaySchools and information can be reached below, this money would stay on your students account from year to year, also from school to school in the district, and is available to spend at lunch on extra purchases such as snacks or an extra slice of pizza. The site does take 24-36 hours to upload money to a students account so be sure to do so a day or two prior to needing the funds. Please reach out to the Food Service Department with questions 734-419-2118 or foodservice@wwcsd.net

Student Arrival & Dismissal Locations
This year when arriving to Elliott students will go to their designated door entrances upon
arrival. Please see the map provided for class locations.
K - Door 13 (students will exit for dismissal from classroom exterior door)
1st & 2nd - Door 10
3rd & 4th - Door 5
5th 4th/5th split K-2 Wendecker & 2-5 Sawyers - Door 11
We have made some adjustments to our parking so that parents have more access when
dropping off students and picking them up. The lot closest to Bennington St where the arrival
& dismissal takes place is designated for our Elliott families that need to park to come into
the building. Please make sure that you are not entering the bus loop/staff parking area to
ensure a quick and smooth drop off for our school buses.
When entering the parking lot please look for the K-2 drop off area and the 3-5 drop off area.
When pulling in the no parking zones they are designed to drop off students and keep moving.
No one should park in these areas and leave their car as it makes arrival and dismissal more
difficult for everyone involved. Students should not be dropped off in the middle of the lanes
as this becomes a safety concern.
Staff will be at the arrival grade level drop off areas to assist families on the first day locating
their assigned doors.
Elliott School Spirit Store
We are excited that we have spirit wear that we have been able to partner with AKA Sports located in Wayne to create a school spirit store for Elliott Elementary. We encourage our students to wear their spirit wear on Wellness Wednesdays (1st Wednesday of the month) as well as our spirit wear days during our sports seasons. Elliott Spirit Store

WWCSD K-12 Attendance Protocol
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.
Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.
Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.
There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.
You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.
You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and productive learning environment for all our students.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools K-12 Attendance Protocol
- One (1) absence and every absence thereafter - An automated call will be sent to indicate that the student has missed an attendance period. If a call was made to the school to excuse the absence, this call does not go out.
- Three (3) absences or equivalent - A teacher will make a phone call to discuss the reason(s) for the absences and seek to support the family in getting the child to school.
- Six (6) absences or equivalent - An attendance letter is sent to communicate the district’s concern about attendance and highlight the steps in the attendance protocol.
- Nine (9) absences or equivalent - A meeting will be set up between the family and an administrator or support staff member to discuss attendance barriers and to highlight the urgency of regular attendance.
- Twelve (12) absences or equivalent - Student’s name and address are submitted to Concentric to conduct a home visit. The school will notify parents of the upcoming visit. The details of that home visit are shared with the school to support the student’s regular attendance in school.
