Dress Code
Information regarding the BCISD dress code begins on page 53 of the BCISD Student Handbook 2024-2025 (link above).
**The two most frequently seen violations at the elementary level are non-naturally occurring hair colors and mohawks. Avoid mohawks and be sure that the non-natural hair colors wash out before returning to school.
Communication
SGE will send out a "SGE Family Newsletter" each week. Stay informed with upcoming dates, campus happenings, and celebrations! The weekly newsletters will be:
- posted on our Facebook page (Shady Grove Elementary - BCISD).
- emailed to the email address provided in Skyward.
- posted on the Shady Grove Elementary website.
- archived on the SGE website under the "Newsletters" page.
Each grade level will publish and send home a monthly newsletter.
Classroom teachers will utilize additional communication methods such as phone calls, written notes in the Paw Planners, emails, and apps such as Class Dojo or Remind 101.
Each classroom teacher has a website where you can locate his/her conference time, email address, and daily class schedule.
Morning Arrival Routines
- SGE doors open at 7:15am.
- Stay in your car! The teachers on duty will assist with the unloading of your student. If you prefer to unload your child, please park in a parking spot and walk your child up to the doors using the crosswalk.
- The only "walk-ups" allowed will be families who are truly walking to school from their home. To ensure your child arrives to the campus safely, please walk your student up to the campus rather than sending him/her to walk alone. The back doors on campus are for bus riders. The front doors are for car riders and walkers.
- Parking on a nearby street to walk your child up to the campus will not be allowed due to a city-school agreement. Our school neighbors appreciate your cooperation!
- Students who would like to eat breakfast should report directly to the cafeteria. (It is important to remind your student of this morning procedure.) As students finish their breakfast, they will join their class in its hallway holding area.
- Students who have already eaten breakfast prior to arriving at school will report directly to their hallway holding area.
- School begins with the first bell at 7:40.
- Students planning to eat breakfast at school should arrive by 7:35am. If your student arrives to school after 7:35am, please be sure he/she eats breakfast at home.
- Visitors are not able to join our students for breakfast.
- Parents are not allowed to enter the building during morning arrival times (beginning on 8/19/24).
SPECIAL NOTE FOR PreK STUDENTS: All PreK students will report to their PreK hallway upon arrival each morning. PreK classes will eat breakfast together at 8am.
Visitors on Campus
Please remember your photo ID! To ensure the safety of our students, staff and visitors, we will ask to see a photo ID each time a visitor enters the campus. Please remember to bring photo IDs into the building when visiting. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Visitors will be given a badge, and the badge must be visible at all times while on campus. Badges are returned to the front office when the visitor checks-out to leave campus.
Front Office Information
In order to ensure that we are able to focus on safely dismissing over 600 students at the end of each day, our front office closes from 3pm through the completion of dismissal (around 3:50pm). This means that we are unable to assist parents at the window trying to sign students out during this time. Remember to plan appointments accordingly. Thank you for your help in running a safe, smooth, efficient dismissal process.
Lunch Visitors
- All lunch visitors MUST check-in through the front office and receive a visitor's badge. Please have your photo ID available and wear your printed visitor badge where it is visible for all staff. Any visitor NOT wearing a badge sticker will be asked to check-in at the front office. The badge authorizes access to the cafeteria ONLY. Lunch visitors are not allowed access to the classroom/playground/etc when visiting for lunch.
- Lunch visitors MUST be listed in Student Skyward access. Visitors coming for lunch with our Bulldogs must be listed in Skyward as a family member or contact to be allowed to eat with a student.
- Lunch visitors must sit at designated tables during lunch time.
- Students with lunch visitors may not invite classmates/friends to sit at the visitors' table.
- Any outside lunch brought to enjoy with your student may not be shared with other students at any time due to state nutrition guidelines and requirements.
- Due to supply issues, any lunch visitor must provide his/her own lunch. Visitor meals can not be purchased through our cafeteria at this time.
2024-2025 BCISD Meal Prices
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students at Shady Grove Elementary. An extra entree will be $1.00 (if purchased at the time as the complete meal).
No Food Deliveries!
No food delivery services for student lunches or birthdays, please! For the safety and security of our students, we are not allowing the use of food services such as DoorDash, GrubHub, and Uber Eats to deliver food for students.
Special Deliveries
Please know in advance that flowers and balloon deliveries for students at this age will remain in the office during the school day. Because flowers and balloons aren't allowed on the bus, and because they can be hard for little hands to handle in a car line, parents will be responsible for picking the items up from the office.
Oopsie Bag
Spills and accidents happen at school. Your child will need a plastic oopsie bag in his/her backpack each day that contains a shirt, shorts/pants, underwear, and socks. Please help prepare your child at home so that if needed, he/she will be able to independently remove dirty clothes, place them in the plastic bag, and then dress in clean clothes.
Student Walkers
Because our students are so young and walking can be unsafe, all parents who plan to have their child walk home after school must first complete a yearly agreement and obtain approval from campus administration.
In order to be eligible to walk from school, the student's Skyward address must be within 1 mile from the campus.
An adult must be present each day when the student walker is dismissed.
The walking arrangement is intended for families who are truly walking home. If the child's adult is seen driving up on a side street, the walking agreement will be revoked. If the parent is picking the child up in a vehicle, the carline should be utilized.
Dismissal Car Line Procedures at SGE
Please see the traffic flow map above.
Form one, single-file line on CR 200. Once off of CR 200, you may merge to either the PK/Kinder lane (yellow arrows) or the 1st/2nd grade lane (blue arrows).
If accessing the parking lot, drive past the deleators and enter the driveway via the fire lane (red arrows).
Make sure to be in the correct grade level line during dismissal. Parents of pre-k and kindergarten students should enter the lane that is on the far right (yellow arrows). Parents of 1st and 2nd graders should enter the middle lane (blue arrows). If you have a student in PK/K and a student in 1st/2nd, they will all load in the PK/K lane.
Please do not cross the grey box until after 3:15pm. SGE uses a system called CarRiderPro. CarRiderPro is a safe and efficient way to streamline the dismissal of car riding students at the end of the school day. Students are issued a tag for their car. Similar to the way a TxTag is scanned as it passes under a card reader, CarRiderPro scans the car tags as they pull through the line which then cues students inside the building to line up. The card reader starts reading car tags at 3:15.
Hang your car tag on the rearview mirror with the numbers facing out so personnel can read it.
Car seats & seat belts - Please help your child learn to buckle and unbuckle independently so that the driver can remain IN the car in the carline. Our goal is to keep the line running so that parents and students can dismiss in a safe, efficient manner.
Stay in your car. The teachers on duty will assist with the loading of your student.
Watch for the person directing traffic. The person directing traffic will send cars from each lane and will alternate between lanes.
Stay in your car and in the car line. Even if you forgot your car tag, stay in line and we will come to you to check your ID. If your child has loaded the car, please stay in the car line and wait for the wave of cars to pull forward rather than pulling around them.
Safety first! Please do not allow your child to hang outside of the car windows or sunroof while traveling through the car line.
***No in-person pick-up after 3:00pm until the car line is finished. As we work to dismiss our students in a timely and orderly fashion, we must keep the front entry/exit doors uncrowded. As a result, parents needing to check their students out must do so before 3:00pm or after the car line is finished. This is a matter of safety as we work to dismiss a school full of elementary children.
How do I request a change in transportation?
Submit an email on the same day as the transportation change request by 1:30 p.m. to sge-transportation@burnetcisd.net
Include the following details in the email:
- Student’s full name
- Student’s grade level
- Student’s homeroom teacher
- The transportation change you want made for today (bus rider to car rider or car rider to bus rider)
Requests made after 1:30pm will not be processed. Notes, phone calls, text messages and emails sent to any other email will not be processed.
Car Rider Pro
SGE utilizes Car Rider Pro to streamline the dismissal of car riding students at the end of the school day. In order to obtain car tags for your student, please visit the SGE office.
SGE will issue two car tags free of charge. Additional car tags may be purchased.
T-Shirt Days
SGE encourages college awareness! Wear your college shirts on Wednesdays!
SGE celebrates our Burnet Bulldogs! Wear green on Fridays!
Birthdays!
Is your child celebrating a birthday? Feel free to send birthday treats for your child's class. The teacher will serve them at an appropriate time according to each class's end-of-day schedule.
Snack Time
A quick snack time will be offered in every class. You are welcome to send a snack with your child. Snacks should:
- not require a spoon.
- be easy to clean up.
- be dry.
- be easily opened.
- not be candy.
Suggested items: Cheerios, Goldfish, Pretzels, Granola Bars, Banana, Apples
Wear the correct shoes to PE!
Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on PE days (check with your child's teacher for the schedule). Tennis shoes need to be able to stay on the feet at all times, preferably with velcro or shoe laces. Sandals, flip flops, crocs, boots, dress shoes, etc are not recommended.
Label, Label, Label
Label everything! As the weather changes and students begin wearing jackets, coats, and other extras, it is really important to clearly label each item with the student's entire name. Our campus has a Lost-and-Found. Items in the Lost-and-Found that are not claimed will be donated in December and May. Don't forget to label items such as water bottles and lunch boxes, too!
Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices
"The district permits students to possess personal cell phones for safety purposes; however, these devices must remain turned off during the following times on each campus:
Elementary Schools - cell phones and/or smart watches must be turned off and put away from the time a student arrives on campus through dismissal. Earbuds and headphones may only be used for instructional purposes with a district-provided device." (BCISD Student Handbook 2024-2025, pgs 54-55)
