HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY
Students are encouraged to join their teachers for this webinar!
January 27th marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz, and for this reason the date was chosen for International Holocaust Remembrance Day. But what exactly happened on January 27, 1945? Was liberation the happy ending we think it was? In this webinar Sheryl Ochayon, Project Director at Yad Vashem, will use testimonies, photographs, and other primary sources to tell the story of liberation as it really was, for the survivors and the liberators.

Teaching Strategy of the Quarter
JigSaw
The What Jigsaws support students in deep research on a specific topic, then provide an opportunity to share that research with other students or groups who explored different topics in depth. Use this format to empower students to go deep and become classroom experts during an inquiry.
The How
Determine which students will research which topics, dividing the class into several Expert Groups.
Provide each Expert Group with research materials and questions that are specific to their topic.
Challenge students in each Expert Group to conduct their research either individually or as a group, responding to the assigned questions or research goals on their handouts.
Regroup students so that an expert on each topic joins together with experts on each of the other topics investigated.
Prompt members of these Mixed Groups to take turns sharing their findings as other group members take notes.
Technology Integration
Financial Literacy Arcade
Students will be engaged in multiple activities that strengthen their personal financial knowledge.
