A Note from Our Principals
Hello Waubesa Families,
We hope you’re enjoying the winter break with family and friends. Wishing your family joy and and happiness in the New Year!
Please be mindful that transitioning back to school routines and early morning wake up can be challenging for students. We appreciate your support to assist by getting to bed early and starting the day with a nutritious breakfast.
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions throughout the school year, we encourage you to use this form. We appreciate hearing directly from families when they have questions or concerns; thank you.
Thank you for your continued support. Soaring Higher Together!
Corey Shefchik: Principal
Brooke Hauser: K-5 Associate Principal
Late Arrivals (Tardy Process)- Pick Up Loop Safety
We are sharing an important attendance update. We’re looking forward to starting a new year off strong. In order for us to do this we would like to circle back about the start time of the school day. We have noticed a large number of late arrivals on a daily basis. A late arrival is 7:55 am.
If your student is late and they will be arriving after 7:55 am we ask that you submit an absence request. Absences can be requested in the following ways:
Preferred- Infinite Campus absence request
Email- wisattendance@mcfsd.org
Phone- 608-838-7667- leave a message
Click here for more detailed information.
As of January 2nd we will be marking students that arrive at 7:55 or later; either tardy excused (student entering the building with a parent or guardian request) or tardy unexcused (student entered the building without a parent excuse). Tardy minutes accumulate to add up to days absent which count toward the 10 parent excused days allowed per district policy.
Please reference the Family Handbook for more detailed attendance reporting procedures. If you have specific questions please contact the office at 608-838-7667 or email Mrs. Emily Gierl at gierle@mcfsd.org.
We have also noticed unsafe drop off and or pick ups at the start and end of the day. All students must exit or enter their vehicle on the right side. This is for the safety of students and vehicles passing on the left.
Drop off begins once you are in the loop. We ask you to pull forward to the “Start Here” sign. Students can be let out of the vehicle at any point once you have entered the loop.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Winter Gear Guidelines
As a reminder please make sure your students have proper gear for outside. This would include but not limited to a coat, boots, mittens, hat, etc. It is suggested to have a back up pair of socks and/or shoes in their cubby if needed. The office can not provide gear for students who occasionally forget the essential items. If you are in need of gear for winter please email Emily Gierl our School Social Worker at gierle@mcfsd.org.
Call for Donations!
WIS is currently asking for the following donations:
- Gum: any flavor any amount! Used as a regulation strategy for some students.
- Legos: used or new!
Please drop any donations in the front office labeled with "WIS Student Services."

Health Services
Cold and Flu Season
We are continuing to see cases of Pneumonia, Strep Throat, Influenza, Covid 19 and GI Viruses (Vomiting/Diarrhea) circulating the schools. As we enter winter break, we ask that you please reach out to your student's Medical Provider if symptoms do not improve within a few days or if you have concerns that your student may have a communicable disease (DHS Wisconsin Childhood Communicable Disease guidelines). This information is very helpful to us in the health office to help track illness and notify families when appropriate. We are happy to answer questions about medical exclusion policies and attendance, provide medications in the health office or be a resource for your student if needed for ongoing illness. Please reach out with questions and stay well!
- If interested in getting your student vaccinated please visit Public Health Public Health Immunization Clinics or reach out to your Clinic.
- If you are in need of Health Insurance please review our Health Insurance Resources located on the MSD Health Service Website.
Medical Attendance
Is your student missing school due to illness, injury or health-related appointments? Providing a medical note or appointment card will prevent these types of absences as counting towards your students' allotted 10 days of excused absences for the school year. Please reach out to District Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at Peplins@mcfsd.org or wisattendance@mcfsd.org if you have additional questions about this process. You can also find more information about absences and attendance in the WIS parent handbook located on the school website.
