Reminders for a Safe Arrival & Dismissal
Arrivals:
PYP (Primary Years Program) students arriving between 7:40-7:55am should report to the cafeteria to allow for teacher contracted planning time. The Student Services Team will be supervising students as they eat and assisting them as they move into classrooms. Arrivals after 7:55am can go to the cafeteria for breakfast OR go directly to class. MYP students can get breakfast from the carts located in the courtyard and will remain there until the 8:00am bell rings to enter the building.
Students are only to be dropped off in the lane closest to York's office sidewalk. For our students' safety, PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO EXIT CAR FROM THE 2nd LANE or from parking spots in front of the school as those locations require them to cross moving traffic in lane 1.
Dismissal:
It is important for cars to stay in their designated lane and not switch as it disrupts the dismissal process. Students are called to designated cones based on the order of names taken. Please be sure to enter our line by 3:15pm while our staff is still out taking names. If you arrive after 3:15pm, please be prepared to park and proceed to the office with your driver's license.
Change of Dismissal Policy
Cell Phone Reminder
Cell phones must be stored in bookbags at all times during class. Students should be not using phones during hallway transitions or in the restrooms. Students in the MYP (Middle Years Program) may use phones during the last 15 minutes of lunch as a privilege. If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call the front office and we will connect you with your child.

Last week all our new physical educators, Coach J, Coach Lanier, and Coach Kelly spent the week introducing and reviewing jump rope skills to their classes while Coach B touched on locomotor skills and the art of the overhand throw. Next week we’ll be starting Fitnessgram pre-testing and more throwing and catching action.
- Don’t forget, families. I know it’s hot out there but try to be intentional about doing some physical activity with your kids to model the importance of overall health and wellness. Speaking of being hot out there, PLEASE send a water bottle with your student to have for PE since the water fountains out on the covered court are temporarily out of service.

Admirals In Action
Mrs. Varnadoe's 2nd grade inquirers began to discover the weather systems around us by creating a rain cloud indoors.
Mrs. Cooper's 8th graders have spent time uncovering ways in which Artificial Intelligence can enhance our lives, while better understanding the dangers and inaccuracies that accompany it. Today they're creating Advertisements to promote the RESPONSIBLE use of this new reality!
Library Orientation was a success!!! Thanks to Mrs. Service for a wonderful lesson on how to be principled with our media resources and giving us a chance to check books out!
Mrs. Maxwell & Mrs. Melendez’s 2nd grade classes had a great time trying to save Fred the worm. Using our IB unit of Inquiry we learned that Systems create organization. We focused on the learner profiles of being knowledgeable, reflective, communicators, and thinkers by using 2 paper clips to get a gummy worm through a gummy ring using no hands.
8th graders in Ms. Crane's classes reviewed the engineering design process by keying to build the tallest free-standing tower that could hold up a marshmallow! They were being amazing communicators and problem solvers!
Mrs. Hilliker and Mrs. Gangis’ grade 3 students have been working on learning self-management procedures and expectations for independent rotation time and they are nailing it!!!
Ms. Crane's MYP students put their creative and critical thinking skills to work as they were tasked with various Lego builds!
Making Thinking Visible: 8th grade ELA students made connections with each other through sharing perspectives in this Tug-of-War of the mind!
Knowledgeable Spanish 1 students competing against each other while reviewing vocabulary! (Picture 1) Students demonstrating communication skills with an assignment about “La fecha”. (Picture 2)
Inquiring Minds! Students in Mrs. Cajigas' Science classes enjoyed learning to use different scientific tools, observing microscopic organisms, exploring forces, and testing variables.
💕 We are impacted by relationships with family, friends, communities, and cultures. 💕
-Third Grade’s current IB Unit "Who We Are"
Mrs. Jinks’ kindergarten class learned how to draw using shapes and added creative details like hair, facial expressions, and clothing!
Mrs. Lankford’s Pre-K Class became “knowledgeable” in identifying our body parts and understanding the ways our bodies move!
Mrs. Clark’s class has had a busy couple of weeks developing positive interpersonal relationships and collaboration skills. Through labs and other activities students have exchanged information and critical thinking skills. Students recorded classmates' names on our class WOW board when peers were caught showing Knowledgeable trait. At the end of the month, students vote for our classroom IB Learner Profile winner based on experiences and evidence from our monthly WOW board log. Our voices matter 🗳️
Mrs. Cossum's students are advocates! They did an amazing job speaking up for the rights of animals!
Mrs. Kudia’s 4th grade class took pride in making a hallway display of their IB transdisciplinary projects for their “How We Organize Ourselves” unit.
Students in Mrs. Bello's 2nd grade class have been working very hard on their projects for their first IB Unit. Students wrote about different systems they use at school and at home to help keep them organized.
Students in Mrs. Gratt's Kindergarten class wrote and drew pictures of ways they are knowledgeable and then communicated with the class.
Students in Ms Fitzpatrick’s 7A math classes were Thinkers and used Form to create “Perfect” square art using the first ten perfect squares. Students also took on the challenge of building some perfect cubes!
PYP artists have been hard at work this week completing their monochromatic self-portraits. Students are also taking ownership in the art rooms by decorating their art portfolios for the year.
In Ms. Malden's class, we explored various science tools through a fun bubble experiment. The students used measuring spoons, a thermometer, goggles, and a ruler to measure and observe the size of bubbles. This hands-on activity allowed them to learn how each tool can be used to gather and analyze data in a scientific way.
Mrs Olekszak and Mrs Varnadoe’s classes were communicators and thinkers as they worked together to create a community as part of their IB unit on “How We Organize Ourselves.”
