Message From The Superintendent🌷
Dear Lawnside Family,
During the week of May 6th-10th, we will be acknowledging Teacher Appreciation Week - a time to honor and show our gratitude for the hardworking and dedicated teachers at Lawnside Public School. Our teachers pour their hearts into nurturing our children's minds and helping them reach their fullest potential.
Their passion, creativity, and commitment to education deserve the highest praise. During that week, we encourage all families to take a moment and express your thanks to the teachers who have made a positive impact on your children's lives.
Here are some ideas for showing your appreciation:
- Have your child write a heartfelt thank-you note or draw a picture for their teacher(s)
- Donate supplies for the classroom like tissues, hand sanitizer, or writing materials
- Offer your time to help or assisting during class
- Spread the word on social media about a teacher who has made a difference
- Join the PTA which supports activities for the teachers throughout the school year
No gesture is too small when it comes to making our teachers feel valued and respected. Their influence extends far beyond the classroom, shaping young minds and bright futures.
Join us in applauding our phenomenal teachers that week and throughout the year. They change lives one lesson at a time.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ronn Johnson
Superintendent

New Jersey State Learning Assessment 2024
April 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Beginning April 30, 2024, Lawnside Public School District will administer the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) in English language arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. The assessments for English language arts (ELA) and Mathematics will be administered to students in grades 3 - 8, and the Science assessments will be administered to students in grades 5 and 8.
The NJSLA assessments are statewide assessments that assess students’ progress toward the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in ELA, mathematics, and science. The assessment is administered in computer-based testing(CBT) format. English language arts (ELA) assessments will focus on writing effectively when analyzing text. Mathematics assessments will focus on applying skills and concepts and understanding multi-step problems that require abstract reasoning and modeling real-world problems, precision, perseverance, and strategic use of tools. Science assessments will focus on applying scientific concepts and practices within the domain of Earth and space, life, and physical science. There are a few ways parents can help prepare their child for the assessments:
· Make sure your child attends school on the days of testing. Students who arrive late during testing will not be able to enter the classroom due to interruption while others are testing. The test will start promptly at 9:00am
· Have your child get a good night’s sleep the night before each test.
· Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast each morning before testing.
Please note, according to New Jersey Department of Education State assessment regulations, electronic devices are not permitted in any testing room during testing. This mandate applies to all electronic devices, including cell phones, smart watches, and digital readers. Please share the importance of adhering to this regulation with your child prior to test administration.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the spring administration of the assessments, please contact Mrs. Alyssa Miller.
Sincerely,
Alyssa Miller
Director of Curriculum and Instruction
